one from the new album: "Waiting to Shine"
http://soundcloud.com/bat.../bb06-waiting-to-shine a more bluesy laid back groove, than some of the other tunes, this one is built around a simple rhythm chord change. using the USACG custom strat i built, all the rhythm guitar tracks were captured with a palmer pdi-09, miced cab for the solo. --solo at the end shows off the budda wah really well, nice wah. stacked with a fulltone fatboost III, and the mesa pretty much cranked. recorded and mixed with Sonar 6PE gear: AT4033, ADK Hamburg, shure sm57 mics, A Designs Audio MP-1 tube mic pre, ART DPS, dbx compressor, mesa boogie mark2b amp, avatar vintage 1x12 speaker cab w/celestion G12C, Superior Avatar drums, Ibanez Mikkro short scale bass, sansamp bass DI

Ok, as per usual excellent quality. I don't know if it's my cup of tea very 80's hair metal for me. The thing is it's so professional, what do you wan't me to say? I may not enjoy the track but it's so good, man talent just shines through no matter what!!! Neb, sorry I hope u understand what I am saying. PS I am not knocking you just excellent in every way!! ben heheh, glad you dig the quality.... but i laughed when i read your statement about 80's hair metal... well, i snickered. hm. this song arrangment and mix, to me, is about as far from 80's hair metal as you could get. i mean, it's basically a blues shuffle, it's a swing beat. i never heard an 80s hair metal song with a swing groove. it always 'downbeat-snare-downbeat-snare' with 4 seconds of plate reverb on the snare and guitars! but that's cool, everybody hears something different. it's just weird to me, you heard that! i don't know, i never really listened to much 80's metal, so maybe i missed something. but thanks for listening and commenting!

rimshot glad you liked it! yeah, the outro solo at the end of the song, i don't know, some people will say it's just wanking. but for me, it's part of the story...it's like the big wind-up. plus, the wah sound was just getting to me... it was dialed in just great in the room, and it was loud enough to wail on it's on if it took the fingers off the strings.... you can hear it screaming as the song fades.... i had a compressor, and an overdrive pedal, driving an already-hot tube amp, at volume. but that sound.......... ah.

hey Freddy J! thanks for checking it out. my buddy was sitting in a bar, talking to me one evening... about how he had to take this 'temporary' job, while he was looking for a better one.. job market has gotten so sketchy..... and he was talking about having a certain skill set in a certain field, but not being able to find a job where he can do what he does best right now... that's kinda what inspired the lyric. this one kind of started out as a different song... the groove was more like zztop or something... then when i got the lyric finished, and figured out the timing of the singing, i had to change the timing of the rhythm guitars to get it work, and this is where it landed. the main chord started out as a Em7/9, but ended up as a EM7/9 LOL funny how one little note changes the whole thing.

great stuff - you have managed to keep a very traditional genre sounding really current. The vocal and lead guitar are top drawer.

I would ease way back on the limiter on this. Let the dynamics come through. It sounds a little congested to me how it is now. Also nothing has much "slam". I can tell the mix is good just I think trying to make it loud sucked out a lot of it's life. Again it sounds really good, that is why I know it could sound a lot better even. Enough about the level though. the vocals sound great, awesome guitar work. Truely a professional sounding band. I like it a lot.

daryl1968 appreciate the comments.... yeah, 'genre' is a real misleading term these days... trying my best to avoid pure genre definitions, because my influences are all over the place. if i was channeling anybody in this particular tune, it was somewhere between zztop and SRV.

ATS thanks for listening! glad you dig it... well, i like what the ME did with the entire group of songs, they all sit very well in a comparison of modern mixes and mastering schemes, not quite as hot, and not quite as limited.... and i hear plenty of 'slam'..... tho that's relative to all the rest of the songs on the album. i prefer a more old school sound, a vintage 'easier on your ears' kind of overall eq and compression scheme. last thing i want is a listener taking in the whole album from top to bottom, to get 'ear fatigue' and i hear that ALOT...... these days.

Sounded like "Batsblues" to me. Got chills right off the bat and I'm on my way to CD Baby. I've been putting it off cause, well I don't know why. Ok, it's ordered!. That should say how I feel about this one. You guys have to stop puttin' these CDs up. I'm goin' broke! Rob, you still are the most played artist on my mp3 player and this will just add more. Woe is me, gotta buy a bigger card! LOL! I STILL WANT THE SHAMAN SONG! B :-)
