one install for everything for Cake's flagship

I/m using 7.02PE and it works good, but crashes about once every 20 hours.  I'm certainly not limited by the program.

I've looked long and hard at X1, messed with it... but

I want ONE install.  If "X2" could be a total install without added updates, features, that would probably be my ticket.

Or am I missing something?  It appears to upgrade, I'm going to spend a weekend to get ALL the Cake offers with their best product and d/l a pile of stuff as well.

I'm happy with 7.02 as stated, but there have been A LOT of updates/upgrades since that and it'd be nice to at least stay current, if that makes sense.  I mean I sold my reel to reels years back...

I'd even almost pay the full price, as an easy install is worth $200 to me...especially if it works immediately.

I'm not following you. It sounds like you are describing the Production Suite. It doesn't have every single thing Cake makes but it has most of the good stuff. Also considering the d patch seems to be reasonably stable I can't see there being too many more updates until the next full product release.

Go for the DVDs if you can. I"m not sure that a download will provide all you will need for an upgrade from 7.

He may be referring to all the steps needed to get X1D Expanded installed.

correct.  I'd love a DVD and just install "X2" that has it all... or additonal DVDs for the prochannel extra stuff, etc.
I was looking to avoid installing X1, then downloading updates to get to where it is currently at.  AND get the production suite stuff too.

Honestly, I stopped following the upgrade path, so I may not be making sense.  IOW, if I was just starting to use Sonar, I wouldn't want to buy a product and then spend all the extra steps for the updates (and even upgrades).  I'd just like to install the flagship product in one sweep.  In a sense, the upgrade path has become a little unclear, especially looking for the best deal.

Oh. Does his version allow a discounted upgrade? If not just do what John said and get the DVDs. After they are installed it's just one simple update to the D patch plus you have the DVDs in hand which is IMO always better. Cheers.

thanks... yes I've gotten promotional upgrades for as little as $99, usually always $149, but that's only for X1.  Then seems I need to do couple updates to get to X1D....and then more for the production suite stuff too (I already have ZSTA+2).   I'm figuring if "X2" comes out, buying the full monty won't be that much more than all the upgrade pricing and hopefully less headaches as I can do a single install  -  unless the prochannel stuff will always be separate, like dimPro, Z3TA, etc

I'm a big proponent that when you have an UPDATE....like X1D, that's all you need to install for the main DAW program - especially for a newcomer.  NOT X1_  ... then whatever else is required

Assuming you bought the Production Suite, the installation process for the DAW would be more or less as follows:

    - install X1 Producer (from the DVD or files downloaded from the Store)
    - install X1c update (around 350MB download)
    - install X1 Expanded
    - install X1d update (around 300MB download)
    - install any Prochannel modules you have

    For other versions,

    - install X1
    - install the corresponding X1c update
    - install the corresponding X1d update

In either case, it's a couple more steps than a straight DVD install, but the extra steps wouldn't take more than 15 minutes or so on any modern PC build. In your place I wouldn't let it affect my decision whether or not to upgrade.

    thx for the quick reply.

I understand and will probably do so.   I just think it's bogus to have to install X1c and THEN X1d.   X1d should be what I get on a DVD or download and it is retroactive.

maybe I'm just making something out of nothing.  and extra install or two shouldn't be an issue.  I'd just wish Cake's programmers did a little housekeeping.

Keep in mind the total download is over 15 GB.

yes, thx for the reminder.  Sometimes my provider tends to think things are inactive...and likes to stop those kind of lengthy things.

I think in the fall (or whenever), I'll see what Cake is up to and buy a DVD, as my upgrade path at that point probably won't be much of a money savings.  Hopefully their next "release"... X2 or whatever, is the full deal.  Then I can add their extras or better yet, check off boxes during install time. ...after paying for the xtras too!

I'd imagine there will probably be quite a few patches after the initial release of X2 as well. If I do decide to move to X2 I will likely wait for a year or so to make sure it has settled into itself and the majority of the kinks have been worked out.

I too think Cakewalk needs a better way to update their software without having to perform mutiple installs on top of one another.

This is a ridiculous way to install a new product.

"Assuming you bought the Production Suite, the installation process for the DAW would be more or less as follows:

    - install X1 Producer (from the DVD or files downloaded from the Store)
    - install X1c update (around 350MB download)

    - install any Prochannel modules you have

    For other versions,

    - install X1
    - install the corresponding X1c update
    - install the corresponding X1d update"

When Mixmkr puchases Sonar he should receive a DVD with all the latest updates added to the installation DVD so he will only have to install Sonar once.

    Peace.

    Peace,

Actually I bought the Suite on disc (build 425). I installed everything including all content and it all worked. Then I updated and I'm pretty sure I only had to install the D patch. Perhaps my memory is failing me and I had to install the C patch first but I don't think so. The whole update process only took a few minutes. No biggie.

a small addition "total" installer would be nice, which you could pass arguments to , and / or basically run silently without prompts... other music software I use does all in one.. and installing / starting / installing and messing about although not all the time is long winded.. same goes for the whole 32 / 64 bit thing.. I'd just rather it install all in one go..

or say when a products update cycle has finished put out something that does all in one.
