orchestral mixingexperiment with S-1

On a lark, decided to see how far I could take the humble TTS-1 within an orchestral context.  For some reason I get twisted pleasure from torturing cheap gear and trying to make it sound good.  I'll leave it to you as to whether or not I was successful with this experiment.

I thought that the brass and strings worked surprisingly well in many spots. The woodwinds seemed to be the most "MIDI"-sounding part of the production.  Hopefully you'll pick up a trick or two about mixing orchestral MIDI mockups.

Cheers,
Jonas

Sounds good.  I am wondering what you did. The instruments are ballanced in volume in panning and there are some effects, reverbs and EQ on the busses.

I just downloaded this, and was quite surprised to find I was downloading a Cakewalk file instead of an .MP3! I thought that was cool...until I tried to open it. SONAR Home Studio 6.2 had some issues with this, starting with the fact that I don't have Sonitus for the effects.

I thought the orchestration was excellent (considering what you had to work with), and I agree with your assessment of the woodwinds being the weakest link. The strings and brass sound surprisingly good! Where did you get this orchestration as a MIDI file?

Overall, I'm not sure what else I may be missing by opening a SONAR (Producer? Studio?) 8.5 file in SONAR HS 6.2--frankly, I'm surprised it opened at all. I certainly appreciate your efforts on this, though!

post it in the songs forum and use an MP3 uploaded to soundclick.  Too much time and effort to load up a cakewalk file just to hear a song.  sorry...I didn't listen

MP3 streaming is the way to go.

Good idea. I'll move this to songs and include the MP3.

    jsaras,

Thanks for uploading the full cakewalk version.  I have learned a lot from your mixing template, and I am sure I will learn a lot from this midi experiment.
