overrated - song morphing from country to punk rock

dear calkwalk power users,

as our bassist always says: speedcake songs are basically always country songs...we just then **** them up with distorted guitars!

https://soundcloud.com/speedcake/overrated

please beware: the songs takes adrastic change after approx 1 minute ;-)

any comments on the mix, songs or lyrics are appreciated, thanks a lot!

My mind is blown now. I think the mix is really well done, I liked the vocals particularly. Maybe a little more treatment on the "country" intro, as it's a little clean. A little reverb to create some space perhaps.

Apart from that, I'm just going to try and put my brain back together cause you just split it in two. Very, very well done.

THIS IS AWESOME! I would have liked to have heard it go back and forth more between the two Genres, either way I must say considering the current state of Country Music not being COUNTRY at all, in my opinion this has more REAL Country music in it than anything on SO CALLED COUNTRY music radio.

I enjoyed hearing this, thanks for sharing!

    Dear rebel007,

thanks a lot for listeing and commenting! You are right, the country intro is little dry, but that it was left like that so that the rock part can come in more powerful. I am glad you like the mix!

    Dear Serious_Noize!,

thanks a lot for your kind words! I have confess something here: the country part is 100 % Band in a Box (except for the vocals of course). They claim they work with the best musicians that Nashville can offer, so it better sound good!

Interesting idea to go back-and-forth with the genres. I still am not sure if the country intro, with about one minute, is too long for the rock listener...but now it is released, and I guess I will leave it like this!

    Dear Robby aka theBand19,

well, if any of my songs should get overrated attention or rotation, I am right where I want to be! Thanks for your comments as always!

Boy, now that I think about it, who wouldn't want to be overrated for 15 minutes?  Dare I say that this song is fresh and ripping?  Ahh...forget it, I just love the hell out of this.

    Dear Lynn,

dear fellow Wilson, thanks a lot for listening and commenting. Just like I say, there is nothing wrong about being overrated! For some damn reason it's just not working for me just yet, the world tends to receive my material just like it is...

Wow -- what a terrific number.  Great switch-up from country to punked-up (?) country.  I get a bit of a Ric Ocasek on steroids feel from the vocals on this number.  I may have mentioned the Ocasek feel on one of my other responses to your posts.  Great arrangement, vocals, playing and mix ---  this number certainly is not overrated.

    Hi Tom,

when I read your introduction to the song, I expected some cow punk a la Jason and the Scorchers or something like Volbeat maybe, but this is really sliding from one world into another. Great stuff!!!

    Dear Mojo Risen,

thanks for your listen! It is quite funny, I get a lot of Bowie comparisons here at Calkwalk. And I love it! So thanks again!

    Dear James,

thanks for your time to take a listen! Yea, we are quite a bunch...think of middle-aged gentlemen, becoming kids again as soon as we enter the rehearsal room or a stage. I am glad I have found three more freaks just like me and that they are willing to play with me in a band!

    Dear Mike,

thanks for your comment! i have to admit that Jamstix and Superior Drummer are in charge of the drumming...I am not really able to record real drums yet. But I am working on that!

    Dear Daniel,

thanks for listening. You are right, Volbeat is not quite our sound, although I love Social Distortion. We will see how our next song sounds...Best Grüsse nach Holland!

Cool jam/song going on here Tom. Vocals sound good to me and the instrumentation kicks in nicely. Great song and love the sounds.

    Dear Robbie aka theBand19,

don't worry, I can take a few ;-) your comments and your listen is always greatly appreciated!

    Dear John,

thanks for your listen and comment. I am glad you like the vocals as I am uncertain if I should buy the Izotope Nectar 2, but maybe I can do without - still tempted!

    Dear Wookie,

your furry ears are too kind. Thanks!

    Dear Rocky,

thanks for your listen and comment!  I  am glad liked the country part as well as the rock part. I must admit that I was even thinking of recording a pure country version. Maybe next time!
