What midi controller are you referring to? (make and model please) I will download the manual and explain to you if you are keen.

I presume you are referring to a pedal that is continuously variable (eg like a wah wah pedal for example) The volume connection my have a permanent connection to midi controller 7 while the others may be programmable to various controllers of your choice usually.

Hey marcus3 Well I must say zero out of ten for the M Audio manual and the Arturia manual does not explain this well either. I am not sure about the M Audio but it seems it has only a sustain pedal input.

With the Arturia you are supposed to use it in conjunction with the software provided. There is a page where you can configure these pedal inputs it seems. There are three pedal inputs and you connect a pedal to one or all of them (volume pedal) and there is a LEARN mode in the software where you move a pedal and it detects which pedal you are moving and then you can link that to a midi controller number.

From there it depends on the DAW software you are using and how it handles that midi controller number. For example in Studio One once you have linked the pedal input to a controller number then Studio One would detect which controller number you are sending, then you move a parameter in a plugin or virtual instrument and then you link those two together. (BTW Studio One makes the job of linking controllers on your controller to any parameter in the software the easiest of any DAW on the planet, period!) In Sonar and other DAW's you would have to link that controller to various parameters.

But I do agree even the ARTURIA manual was vague and I had to really look to find it. The M Audio manual is vague at best and does not seem to explain any of the rear panel connections at all. The Arturia looks like a nice controller as well. I think that works best though once you start getting their plugins and using them both together.

thanks for looking into that yeah all dum how they dont place this stuff in the manual   I'm looking use it on the ivory italian grand concert piano.
All i really need is the sustan/sostenuto pedals. If i can assign the volume pedal to it that be great.
