playback and record shift timing

When I record a first track and then record a second track while listening to the first track, the second track loses timing with the first. As a test I took a metronome and recorded that for about a minute. I then recorded the metronome as it played back on the second track. When I played the two back, the metronomes lose syncronization.

This makes multitrack recording impossible. Does anyone know how to fix this.

    Try this, compliments of Robomusic:

go to options / audio / input monitoring, and unhighlight anything that is highlighted. If that does not work then go to options / audio and look under mixing latency, and slide the buffer adjustment a little each way to see if you can take out the latency
