playback high-pitch glitch in sonar

Hello,

Has anyone come a cross this issue in Cakewalk Sonar Producer edition:

recording into the soundcard using the standard 1/4 mic jack...
the recording sounds fine...
but playback shrinks the file and it sounds higher pitched and sped-up.
sort of like a 'chipmunk' effect.

watching it record..the wave file looks perfect as it records
...
but when i play it back it sounds sped up and choppy.
also..i can visually see what was just recorded shrink in size.

i remember coming across a fix like this waay back in the day...
but i have no clue where the link is.

I'm a noob. please be gentle.

thanks in advance for your help

:)

Check the settings under options / audio,it may be a bit rate setting, 24 or 16?The only time I've come across this is when the sample rate is wrong. It happens when converting wav files into mp3s sometimes also. Anybody any other ideas?

i actually checked that before starting to record.

the last time this happened and i fixed it..it was some sort of background process.
i may even have done regedit too..but it was sooo long ago, i can't remember exactly what to do.

    any other suggestions?

hmmm I don't think so because everything is set to 44100 in sonar and in my delta 44 settings. In fact, I just reinstalled vista and everything recorded correctly. Then I did a windows update, now the high pitched, squished audio recording is back. So I'm thinking it has to do with a particular update. I do recall that sonar was working fine before I did an update the first time as well.

    Any ideas?

just confirmed it...it is indeed a windows update that is messing with sonar. Because I just did a system restore to before the updates and now sonar works fine. Just am unsure of which windows update that is causing this.

    I am running Vista 64
    Sonar 8 - 32 bit
    quad core
    8 gigs RAM

Thanks to anyone who has any idea of which update that is causing this.

I am having this same problem now as well. I just ordered a new machine from ADK Pro audio. I am running Sonar X1D Producer and when I try to playback anything it sounds high pitched (i.e. - higher pitch than I recorded). Has anyone found a fix for this?

wrong forum.X1 has it's own forum. But the issue is global to any DAW or OS. You need a proper audio interface and the correct drivers first.

I have the Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2 and am running the correct drivers. ADK setup my system for me but, of course, they are closed and I really need to fix this today.

like CJ said 3 years ago, clock rate mismatch. Check your settings for clock rate==44.1 or 48.---- PS; word length has no effect on playback 16 or 24 or 32.

Internal sample frequency 44.1kHz and 48kHz 22x18 FireWire digital recording interface (24-bit / 44.1kHz and 48kHz) Direct recording interface compatible with Logic, Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, Digital Performer and more ------------------------------------------wow nice piece of gear,, me wants one!! so check the boards clock rate, I'd set it at 48, then check Sonar is set to the same in audio options. DOuble check the drivers are the exact match to OS and 64 bit etc. It is very easy to load the wrong drivers.
