please, help

please help me connect guitar to laptop. when i connected guitar i cant hear any sound from pc. i have window vista, sound card-HP Premier Soundâ„¢ High Definition Audio 24-bit DAC, integrated stereo speakers, integrated microphone. i insert guitar cable into pc microphone input. Maybe audio set up isnt correct?

    You need a sound card with a Hi-z input and a real microphone, not the integrated one. nothing good will come of it.
    The onboard sound cards dont have what you need to record guitar into them. you need an audio sound card, noyt just an ordinary one. one with pre amps and a hi-z input.

    Thats ok, but i would get the EMU404usb2.0, it has hi-z inputs in it

    EMU404 is better, cuz it have two hi-Z inputs? this is only differece?
