pretty fly (For a White Guy) Offspring Cover
ok... I'm gonna pat myself on the back a bit here... This song rocks! :) If you know the original, take a listen and tell me how I did. A couple minor guitar flub ups, but I'm re-recording that soon... Pretty Fly

Troy, Very well done. I don't think I've ever listened to this song critically, but that is a very busy mix, and very clean. Sounds like Offspring to me. Captures the attitude. Yeah, a couple of early attacks, but ya done good!

Pretty fly indeed. Well done. The lead singer of the Offspring has a hard to emulate voice, but you did well. Guitar was spot on. Drums seemed a bit dry compared to the original. Mix was very good. Cheers Shad

Thanks guys!! Recording this went amazing well(and fast) I'm no pro so I'm sure some of you are sitting back thinking something like... it was fast and easy because its not good! :) Most of the vocals were kept on the first take. "Give it to me baby"<---- I never laughed so hard! Guitar (the instrument I've been playing for over 20 years) however, had many takes... :) RobertB: Good catch with the "early attacks" comment. -->split -->16th MOVE all fixed up :) foxwolfen: I increased the reverb just a hair. Take a listen now and see if it sounds any better to ya. rockyrose: It was a blast... My buddy keeps throwing songs at me to try. When he mentioned this song I wasn't thrilled, love the band, not my favorite song. After 10 minutes, I realized how well I could do his voice. tdye: Youtube the original, or just listen to mine again. Its so close to the original it might as well be. :) :) PS. I've updated the song with a slightly better mix. Pretty Fly

Hahaha awesome! I haven't heard the original either, but your version sounds plenty good enough. I've said it before, you've got a powerful voice especially up in the high register. Rare talent. Keep rockin man

Unos dos tres quatro cinco cinco sais (I don't know spanish so thats probably spelled all wrong heheh) Yesterday Janet had "The Band" stuck in my head, today its the Offspring. I think the drums sound right now, but perhaps back a tad off the reverb on the vox. Overall you nailed the sound really well Cheers Shad

Troy, Nice job. I hadn't heard this one in a while and was wondering if I'd recognize it right off. I did recognize it. You did a good job on that. I didn't pick up on the guitar flub. I thought the vocals were a little out front (seemed like they were in a different space than the guitars) and could blend a little better. Not a showstopper though, just my taste. That was a fun one for sure!

i do know the original, this is a great job Troy! man, you must have put your tightest leather strides on for this recording! guitar is excellent, drum programming very good, i'd agree that if you did the drums yourself and they're on separate tracks they need a bit of processing - get your compressors out! otherwise the only other minor point would be trying to sit the vox a bit into the mix slightly - you ever use a global reverb on a send buss? excellent!

Ok, I can't lie... I searched for quite a while to find a GOOD midi version, then stripped the drum track. :) I can't program drums to save my life. I never thought this one would turn out so good. I either picked the perfect song to cover or I'm just getting better in my old age. :) I keep getting good comments about the guitar. I had actually never played this song before. I looked up the lyrics, grabbed my guitar and noodled for about ten minutes. Then I recorded it. I few minor flub ups and redo's... ;) Thanks for all the nice comments and advice guys

i LOVED IT!! I think the guitar could be a tiny bit hotter, and I'd increase the room size (or eqiuivalent) one or two notches just as an experiment. But it's neat as it stands.
