problem with a stereo track

I have a drum overhead stereo track, but it sounds mono. the track wave form shows 2 signals; when I load Channel Tools, in the left section it shows only the L is 'Active', R and Swap are greyed out.
Same thing on the right side, R Gain and Mid/Side Gain are greyed out, ditto both sliders to manipulate the stereo image.

Any ideas what went wrong here??

Check that your track interleave is set to Stereo, not Mono.
