problem with midi import to music creator le 5
Question regarding importing midi files into mc le5 . I am using an opensource program called tuxguitar, (similar to guitarpro software) to program percussion files, then dropping the midi file into music creator le 5 and using preset cakewalk softsynths to pull up drum sounds. My problem is that I have multiple tempo changes assigned to the midi file, and when I import the file, music creator le 5 is not playing the file with the tempo changes entact, it just plays it at the default tempo. When I play this file through any other program, the tempo changes follow, but not in mc le 5. I was advised to look for an option to input midi at the "Source tempo" but I could not find an option. Is there any advise you could offer?

tempo changes are not easy with MC. I have actually never done a tempo change in anything I write simply because it is not the kind of thing that exists in the songs you hear on the radio. Tempo changes are a deal killer for radio & TV music. I do believe it is possible to incorporate tempo changes in the music but it has to be done on a measure by measure basis. I remember messing something up one time by changing the tempo in the middle of the song. It started at 80 for several measures then suddenly took off at 120.... WHAT? I'm not on a DAW computer right now, but I know it's possible to insert a time signature and a tempo change. F1 gets you to the help menu. I have done some ****s at the end of a song. rather then using a tempo envelope to slow it down, I simply slowed the song by playing the piano slower to the end.... then went back and inserted the drums manually with midi edit.... the tempo never slowed, just the playing. But the end effect was...the song slowed down correctly at the end. A final note: dancers do not like changing tempo's at all..... ever. In a band, one time, we started a song really slow, so everyone got out on the floor and was slow dancing..... then we kicked up the tempo..... we got some dirty looks from lots of the guys who now had to fast dance..... and didn't want to fast dance.... I'd be interested in hearing the final result with tempo changes. It';s not something I hear often.

Thanks for the quick reply. I play in a technical extreme metal project, so pissing off slow dancers probably won't be at the top of our lists of worries lol. Into alternate and advante garde music theory. Ijust need something to phash out premature ideas before bringing them to the rest of the band. So are you suggesting that I use mc5 le to manually insert these tempo changes? tux guitar does break up the tempos by measure, and plays it back according to what ever setting was programmed per measure. (hence allowing for different tempos within a song). However, when I drop the file into mc le 5, it ignores this and plays it back at the daw tempo...Talked with fellow musicians and they have not had this problem with reason, or some other daws. I didnt know if there was some way to select an option to allow the midi file to maintain its tempo changes, or if I have to manually insert them using the daw.

or rather a different approach, can I choose to change the tempo for just one track? or does it change the tempo for every track in the project?

audio which is already recorded will not be affected by tempo changes except to "redraw" the waveform picture to match the new tempo. it will not adjust the audio at all. that can't be done that easily. you can make groove clips out of your audio and change the tempo in them that way, or you can upgrade to X1 which has Audio Snap feature you can change the tempo of the entire project THAT way. but just adjusting the tempo in MC does not adjust the audio, only the MIDI and the waveform picture. also, there is not a feature available to change the tempo on a per track basis, even in X1. that feature is not available. tempo is global per project.

if it's audio... record it again to match... it's not worth the effort to try to make tempo changes. Midi is a different story, you can make the changes

I have imported MIDI files with tempo changes in them and the changes did occur. The help file says tempo change meta-events are supported, but I tried it awhile ago. Created a MIDI track with several tempo changes in it using MC Pro 24. Saved it as a MIDI Format 0 to a folder on my desktop, then opened SHS 6 and imported that MIDI file, but the tempo changes weren't there. It should work. ?

An advice often given to people importing MIDI is to open the MIDI files instead of importing, if possible. I'd guess an opened MIDI file maintains it's tempo changes, but an imported MIDI file might just adapt to the project tempo. That would mean, of course, building the project around the MIDI instead of adding MIDI to one.

Also in an all midi project tempo changes would most likely be done in either piano roll, or event list. The later would be my choice.
