question about Sonar Keyboard Pane, in the piano roll view

The keyboard pane isn't responding with the mouse.  Notes don't sound with mouse clicking.  The notes do play when the song is playing back.  I can record, hear notes record, and hear notes play back.   But I can't edit, can't scrub notes as they don't sound.  The roland drum kit alone is having this issue.   My keyboard and soft synths don't have this problem.
