question about TTS-1 Powered by Roland

How do I use more than one instrument for each part. For example I set up drums in the first part, then I added a bass on the next one and so on. But when I try to use them all on the step sequencer I can only use the drums

This picture I obviously a screen shot but I wanted to add to help get my question across. Lets say I want to use the first chanel which is piano and then number ten where the standard set is. I though I could avoid opening to many instruments by using 5 of these channels.

thanks

You need to assign each voice a separate MIDI channel number. If you have bass on 2, for example, the output from the MIDI track for bass would have to be assigned to channel 2. I don't think the current version of the step sequencer lets you specify MIDI channels on a per-note basis. (The upcoming version will, though.)

Your best bet is to put drums, bass, etc. on separate MIDI tracks. They can still all drive one instance of the TTS-1. You can then use multiple instances of the step sequencer if you want.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yeah, the current version of Step Sequencer is fiddly. It doesn't always change tracks when you do. I would try the experiment with just normal Sonar MIDI tracks to make sure your TTS-1 is working multi-timbrally as BitFlipper said. Don't count on Step Sequencer to follow along, however.

The new version of Sonar has what is termed "Step Sequencer 2". Hopefully this is one of the problems they'll fix.
