question regarding tuning VSTI's
does anyone know how to alter the tuning of a vsti or the midi to play synths so that A is set at 432? I can tune my guitar to this but I kind of want to make sure all the other sound generation is of a similar tuning.

you need to look inside the particular VST synth's GUI. Most do have a way to adjust the tuning.... some may not. It will vary from one to the next, if they have it and where it is located but most will have it and it's usually on the main GUI screen somewhere.

you could always transpose the keys also, but as GH already said, depends on the interface. reason does it part of the audio setup what about something like http://www.kvraudio.com/product/detune_by_mda

I want to use lots of VST synths I was hoping to have the ability to set a project to A 432 instead of using A at 440 in sonar and not have to worry about it as I add synths. You would think that something so basic would be a part of the DAW and not dependent on the vsti.

I've never heard of A=432 until now. I found this article, amongst others:- http://www.omega432.com/music.html I don't know what to say. I do know one thing though, I will be sticking modern concert pitch.

I've seen that 432 web site before. I think it's is a bunch of melarchy if you ask me. You're going to take a strings instrument out of tune by more than the 2 difference just by how hard you fret, pick, or strum. I could be wrong, but like I said, it sounds like bull to me.

As for the OP's question ... I know that Dim Pro can do it, and the Cakewalk SI instruments that all come with Sonar Producer.

You would think that something so basic would be a part of the DAW and not dependent on the vsti. You need to think this through a little more carefully. How can a 3rd party developer make allowances for the fact that most of the Western world uses A=440Hz and build his vsti that way, only for it to have to change when it's inside a different host? This is an absurd idea. Of course it's dependent on the vsti and it's not that basic. I agree with the "bull"sentiments above Some of this is worth a read, but there's lots of BS you'll have to skip over http://www.gearslutz.com/board/moan-zone/666031-retune-your-music-444-old-tuning-standard.html

Well, I must admit that, I'm a bit of a skeptic, and as soon as I read something with the words "spiritual" in it I kind of turn off. That's just me, and I fully believe that we are all entitled to our beliefs and stuff. Some of the justifications appear to make sense, such as the modern A=440 tuning is too high for singers of opera. Sounds plausible to me, although I have no experience at all on this sort of thing. Personally, I've read enough to make an informed decision to stick with A=440, which suits my DAW, my guitar tuner and my penny whistle which I don't fancy having to cut up.

You are getting some support and some scoffing - but to me your timing of this post is great. My voice struggles with standard tuning and I have been tuning down for certain songs for many years. 432 is close enough to what I need - but it doesn't have to be that exact pitch. Just lower... I would like to know if there is a vst midi plug that could set or alter the tuning for any instrument. Thanks for posting this.
