The style is not my cup of tea, but I do like the bass playing. Reminds me of some early Steve Harris.

Solid playing and interesting instrumentation, structure. Listened to this one twice, and I don't usually comment on mixes but this one seems a bit too bassy, or muddy, or something on my system, anyway. I could barely hear your guitar work buried in the bass. It could also be my system, as it is an old receiver interfacing the sound card to a set of flat monitor type speakers. If you get any more comments on it.. Anyway, great tune man. Always like your stuff, the skill you put in to your songs.

Sounds way better and can hear the guitars a little better, to me. I can hear that scratch part now, and those kick ass runs. The other thing I forgot to mention before was how much I dig the space and dynamics of it. It sounds great turned up. Love the ending too, by the way.

Cool song bats. Oozes energy. Right about the time I was thinking "man I gotta say something about how much verb he has on these drums, it's nuts they sound so far away..." I realized it was an intentional effect and getting thicker. Pretty cool actually. Nice production man.

The mastering engineer did a great job with my original files, but my original files had some bass build-up in a few key frequencies that i missed, with my old monitors, and the files were finished that way with little change up of the overall freqs by the mastering engineer, he stayed true to my mixes... it is easier for me now (after the fact) to dial out issues, all i did was quickly edit the original 16 bit file with some eq changes, and re-post.... since i've almost sold out of all the original cd's, i'll probably re-mix the problem tunes (there are 3) and re-master myself, to match the other files, and burn my own cd's if folks purchase any more..... i wished there was a way to simply setup downloading of the finalized 16 bit wav files, and let people download them at their leisure, and do what they want with them!! that's what i'd prefer to do... but going thru cdbaby, this is not an option. they DO let folks download FLAC files, which is about the best way to do it... but not everybody has a FLAC player. maybe one day the methods of delivery will be standardized into a modern way.

hey chuckC! thanks for listening...... you know, i wrote this drum part using Sony Acid... it's a loop-based software, and when i wrote it, i had it on an older PC, which has now gone the way of the dinosaurs. LOL anyway, when i wrote it, i wanted that big faraway sound, and it goes hand in hand with the lyric. the lyric is really what drives this mix. everything that happens in the mix, and the arrangement for that matter, is to serve the lyric... it's about letting go of someone dear. Wow, another great song! I love your lyrics, always solid. I read the talk about too much bass and that you changed the mix to compensate, but where is the bass now? I hear it in the beginning and a spot or two in other places, but overall the whole mix sounds somewhat bottomless and thin on my system. This song can easily support more low end without sacrificing anything else, imho. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

lynn, it's so funny, some folks think the bass is perfect.... you suggest it's bottomless and thin.....! LOL that's ok, i know that folks' playback system vary all over the place.... here's the album version: https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/2-angel i'm remixing it anyway, and will offer a couple of remixes for free to all that have purchased the album... but just for the experiment, it's worth it. see if the original works better for you. with extended low end, it kills.

Lynn Yes, that's much better!
well, this was my mix professionally mastered.... the ME was staying true to my mix, which on THIS song, and unusual for me, the bass/low end was NOT dialed in the way i really wanted. i think this was the first song of the compilation of songs for the album, that i finished mixing. i never really went back to revisit it..... so, on a full range system, or on, say, ear buds that have extended low end, it sounds wooly. the mix i'm doing now, actually increases the low end, but takes out a lot of wool. should be a better mix, and i'm going to email everyone that bought the album, a link to a download for the new mixes (there may be as many as 3) appreciate the feedback, just what i needed.

i actually feel both versions are slightly below your true top-notch mixes, but i prefer the album version. not sure why, but it's tough to have a gnarly bass line with more delicate guitars I suppose. of course the tune is great and the playing utterly beyond reproach. i especially love the little run at 0'42 the change-up is cool, but once again the song is too short! give us some fretboard wankery!
