"Carry Me" - Acoustic Ballad - Mix 3 - 6-21-13
"Carry Me" - Acoustic Ballad Hi, Guys, Here's the first mix of a new acoustic ballad, called "Carry Me". LOL, Yep, I know, it's miles away from my usual Hard Rock and Metal style, but sometimes a little change can be good, too! This started out as just a simple way to test out a new tube pre that I bought and it developed into this song. If you have a few minutes, please check it out for me. As always, any and all helpful comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, input and ideas are welcome, and also greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for any input, suggestions, comments and ideas ! Bob ===========================================NOTE: New Mix Up 6-14-13 - As per your input and suggestions, I edited/removed the distracting vocal breaths, re-eqed bass for more definition and adjusted the bass volume level, and added a few light drum fills to help differentiate the song sections. Thanks so much for all your great input, observations and ideas! NOTE: Mix #3 up 6/21/13. Added a few small piano fills and re-eqed things a little bit. "Carry Me" 128kbps MP3 on SoundClick at: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12333509 Or... Better Quality MP3 on the Player at: www.boboister.com/test-mixes.html Thanks!

THANK YOU, BOB!!!!! Just what I've been aching to hear from you! Wonderfully done!!!! P.S. A nice, edgy guitar solo and a chorus with some different chords and melody would top it off nicely too.

nothing wrong with a ballad once in a while - guns'n'roses had them, mötley grüe had them...and this could be your "every rose has its thorn"! your voice suits well for the song and the genre. the only thing that made me go "hmmmm" was when the drums joined in...it sounded a little bumpy...maybe I would smoothen that out. beside that: thumbs up!

This is really a nice tune Bob. An acoustic lead bridge would be nice. Good vocals too. You've really have improved your vocals and production over the past couple of years! Daryl

Nice change of pace from you for sure. The chorus hook is very strong and has definite hit potential - I've only listened a few times and it's well and truly in my head - gonna be singing this to myself all day tomorrow now ! Minor nits ? Mix wise I thought the bass could come up a smidge and the drum introduction felt a bit clumpy. Any bigger crits ? Well, yeah.........it sounds a bit the same all the way through - could use more differentiation between the verse / chorus parts for me, either melodically or by a change of emphasis / sound as it ends up detracting from itself by feeling a bit repetetive after a while, which is a shame 'cos the "carry me....." (which I think of as the chorus) is very good.

Marshal Tucker!! :-) Gonna take a freight train down at the station, Lord I don't care where it goes Gonna climb a mountain the highest mountain now but gonna jump off ain't nobody gonna know (chorus) Can't you see, woh can't you see what that woman, Lord she been doing to me? Can't you see, can't you see ah what that woman she been doing to me It changes a bit quicker though than Marshal Tucker. I did like it? While different for you, it was somehow exactly the same vibe as so many of your hits? (which means it was vintage Oisterizer...) I'd put a bit more high end in that bass Bobo (it would add some definition) But I would have played my fretless too :-)

GREAT JOB! Nice change from the norm. . . but the vibe is all you. That's what I like about your music you change it up a bit but as soon as you hear those rock pipes your thinking that's Bob. Mix sounds great but, here comes my nit. The acoustic intro when your vocals come in you can hear each breath before you sing. Maybe cut them out but when percussion kicks in it sounds like classic Bob/mint. I really enjoyed this and would hope this is only the start of more to come. KUDOS! Kev

Scottytunes: Hey, Scotty, Thanks buddy, as always, I really appreciate your valuable input and good ideas! I actually pondered a short guitar solo as a bridge just to break things up, I may give it a try for the remix. I'm really happy that you like the song, your opinion means a great deal to me. Thanks again for all your support on my music and you friendship, and have a great holiday weekend! Bob ====================================== speedtom: Hi, Thomas, Thank you very much for checking the song out and also your good observations and very kind words! Yes, I actually added the drums and bass at the last minute as an afterthought, because I intended to just go with the acoustic guitars, vocals and strings, and I figured a drummer on this style of song probably wouldn't kick in with a fill or snare roll like a rock or metal drummer would. LOL, so I just jumped right in with the straight beat. I'll have to think of a way to try to smooth out the beginning of the drums. Many thanks for giving this a listen and for your very good input, best wishes! Bob ====================================== munmun: Hi, Sunny, Thank you for giving the song a listen, and for your very kind words! Yes Sir, as I mentioned to Thomas above, I actually added the drums (and bass) at the very last minute as an afterthought, using my usual rock kit, but then I intentionally pulled the "punch" out of the drum bus because my normal effects chain on the drums was overpowering the very sparse mix of the acoustic guitars and strings. Maybe I'll try to experiment a bit and shoot for a happy medium. Thanks again, Sunny, I'm very grateful that you like the song, and really appreciate your input and observations! Bob, No nits on the mix. Nice and clean and vocal performance is really great. It does get repetitious after a bit, with the verse and chorus using the same melody. I'd suggest doing the verses in a softer voice. You could do it in almost a whisper and use the same range, or do it in a lower register, and use an almost spoken melody. If you did it like that, and use a sparser arrangent of just drums, bass and guitar, the chorus would have more impact when the pad comes in. Doing it that way would also really make that high harmony part in the chorus "pop". Randy

Hey Bob, this is really cool my friend. I don't know why though, but I can really envisage this turning into a massive power ballad about half way through. I mean, throwing everything in your metal armoury at it In any case, it's great to here you adding another string to your very talented bow.

(Strings) Transition at 00:53 is to die for and hooks me onward! Great move! Extremely melodic psychedelia; I'm sure this is a fav for many of us and commands are wider pop audience. Lyrics and vocals are sensational as usual ... they take my breath away. The song is so magical in fact, that I listened twice with utmost joy! 'Not sure I'd change a thing, honestly.

This was nice a difference to hear this from you Bob with that Bob hallmark mix. I do agree with the others regards it tendency to feel slightly repetitious, some very sound advice is presented above. Thanks for sharing

Hi Bob, you sure stay busy, don't you? This production is top notch, all the way. The lyrics are thought provoking, for sure. Your vocal is strong and has enough weight to carry the show. I think your music site is terrific, btw. I may try something like that in the future. Keep up the good work, my friend!

The sound of the vocal track is A+. Sounds so much like Ursa Major did their vocal tracks, and you are probably saying Ursa who? Well...that is a huge compliment. Dick Wagnor went on to play guitar for Alice Cooper, but if you have never heard the Ursa Major album back in about 1970, give it a listen. The only thing the song needs as stated in another post is the solo acoustic bridge. Cat Stevens was a super pro at writing bridges. One of the hardest things to do, but make a change up with a bridge and you will have a hit. I really enjoyed it! Great job. Free

Bob, I really enjoyed listening to this. You do a very good job at ballads. I especially liked the vocals with background harmonies panned perfectly. The drums fit well with what you have done. Backing off the compression in the buss fits well. The guitar sounds almost like a 12 string. Is it? Whatever it is I like that combination. Very clear and tight. Always enjoy anything you post here! I could hear an instrumental fade out in the ending instead of an abrupt end, but that's me. Nothing really wrong with this at all.
