It also occurred to me this would be a great place for "bulletins." How many times has "reset and rescan" been given as an answer and solved a problem? So the notification could say "There's a new major update in the CCC, please remember to reset and re-scan your VSTs after updating." Or "The Sizzle Bus FX Chain is in the Anderton Collection Processors folder"...stuff like that.

I have no idea how this became a priority for developers. As I mentioned in another thread, where are the complaints that what we have now is not good enough? This is so far down my priority list I can't see it.

Came to think of another option to help organize projects - discovering Playlists, never knew about it. Playlists can be used to hold a series of projects together and relation what you consider album or whatever. Ability to put a playlist on Recently used list, or similar option in menu system. So if you organize startup page, it could also contain playlists and not only projects. And ability to organize playlists as well. My thinking is to have a playlist of what I call embryos, and one for Mixing, mastering etc. And easily move projects to keep track of which state they are. Could be very helpful.

Don't be confused - I just control that by naming each playlist - embryos, inprogress, mixing, mastering, publisher registered song etc. So many playlists cover the needs - everything needed is there to easily find what you want to work on. But if separate columns for custom categories, I don't mind that either. We all use whatever naming for a group of projects that is relevant for the purpose.

I am scattered over disk with Sonar 4, 8, X3 and 2015 stuff. So really cool to get projects in different states and different places accessed in one place. Get project grouped according to an idea you have etc. Open file dialogs too often open in the last spot something was stored, like vst presets in some place. Then next open start there. Unless carefully managed by software you run, windows takes care of this caching.

What I'd like from a start screen (while accepting that showing all of this would be hard to do in a simple UI):
- Recent project, ordered by how recently I edited them
- the full path to the project
- When I last edited them
- tempo, key, and meter information
- when I created them (if this information is available)
- how long the project is (the end time of the last clip is sufficient)
- how many tracks are in the project
- how many clips are in the project (midi and audio counted separately)
- a list of track names in the project
- a list of synths in the project, with presets in use if that information is available
Plus 'Tip of the Day' (below the recent files), and any links to special offers on Cakewalk software or that of affiliates.

Yep - totally useless to me. I create a starter file and launch from there. I would never start from the Sonar icon.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I think it might have to do with how much work is involved to implement a new feature. I looked at top five of voted and they are all pretty much of a workload. A couple of notation fixes, arranger tracks, save colors with templates and then comes nested folders...as I recall. No quick fixes any of these... Nested folders, well that is pretty heavy, pdc have to be calculated in quite new ways. We don't want pdc screwed up, I guess. And they don't reveal stuff that are months away, would probably be a bad idea us tapping our fingers till then.

Wouldn't be useful as a Bulletin board for me in any case - because I would never start from the Sonar program icon. I want to go directly into the file I'm working on by clicking on the file icon. Completely convenient, and this totally bypasses the start page (which is a good thing for me).

Hi, here is what would be useful to me on the Start Page:
1) The last 4 Project Folders I have accessed. Under each of these would be the last 2 or 3 Project Files (.cwp)
2) A section on the Start Page where I could create new projects which would include:
a) A box for filling in the new Project Name (this could also automatically date stamp the folder name with the date it was ceated if I wanted. Also, maybe it could default to an automatic name, e.g. Project 04May2014-1)
b) A list of the 4 most used Templates. Templates could also include a long description which would be shown here.
3) Retain the "Show this at Startup" tick box.
On the lighter side, the page could include a positive message cycling through items such as "Hey [your name here], you look great today", Wassup [your name here], ....
Thanks again to CW for a great product. So far you are well on track to giving me >$150 worth by the end of the year.

I would like an expanded new project area on the start page that let's me choose a sample rate to apply to my choice of templates, along with a song structure ala EZ Drummer that gives me hilighted regions for one-click, no-drag song section selection.
Of course there should be default values prefilled for all of the bazillion options that can be set by clicking "make all of the choices I just made the default(s) for future projects" checkbox.
Foil cutter and corkscrew optional :)

A news feed with links to cool tips (see other thread) ... embed Easter Egg links to Craig's Cool Content to get people to scour the new items.
Add a magic button that when clicked, removes the sticky flag from all of the posts in these forums :)

Following on from my earlier post, as well as the great ideas others have put forward, it is likely that Sonar would benefit from two types of Startup Pages, (1) a "Full Content Page" for those using a ~24 inch monitor and (2) a "Reduced Content Page" which would be useful for those using a laptop screen (e.g. when recording live).
