"Falling Faster" (Modern Rock) New Mix Up! 11-13-15
"Falling Faster" (Modern Rock) NOTE: New Mix Up! 11-13-15 As per your input, I decided to kill the first verse full drums and just add some hi-hat and half-time drum accents to get things into to the first chorus. Thanks for all your input so far, and any other suggestions/ideas you may have, guys! Best Wishes, Bob ========================================== Hi, It's me again, guys, I keep popping up like a bad penny! I just uploaded another Test Mix for a song called "Falling Faster", which I'm hoping to be the opener for my upcoming third album. If you can spare three minutes to check it out, as always, any and all helpful comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, input and ideas are very welcome, and also greatly appreciated! Big thanks in advance for any observations, suggestions, comments and ideas! Bob, Cool song. Sounds really good. Love the guitar solo and overall guitar tone:) I think your drums during the first verse are messing with your groove though. I can hear a totally different beat under your vocals and guitar. You have a really cool rhythm section going with guitars and vocals, and it sounds like the "drummer" is killing your groove. Maybe find something with a bit more groove? Would also like to hear that intro verse repeat again after the 1st chorus rather than going into a bridge. The verse has a really cool hook. IDK, see what others think. Really like the song and overall performance. Good work. Regards

Your stuff always sounds so professional, great separation and really good vocal sounds. A nice full soundscape and, oh yeah, a great tune with a great solo! You rock, sir. FWIW, I agree with the comment about the drums during the first verse. I hear what you're trying to get done there, but the straight beat drum part is taking away from the cool cadence of the vocal and guitar. Thanks for sharing this.

Great song! Guitar and vocals superb. I do agree with Mark about the drums kinda out of sync, but only seems so in the 1st verse imo, because it doesn't seem in sync with guitar delay effect (it that's what it is). I like Carry Me video- nice video clips, especially the violinist in the field. thanks for comments!

A great choice for the opening song brother. I think my favorite solo from you, great tone and style. Love the vox and harmonies. I have to agree with Mark during the first verse about the timing/beat there isn't doing it justice. Spot on from the first chorus on though. I like how your Metal sound is evolving into something really unique and modern.

markno999: Hey, Mark, Thanks, brother, that's just what I needed! Drums are always the hardest part for me, and I tend to overcomplicate things by trying to make them sound "different", usually screwing things up in the process. I'm going to try to scale back the verse drums dramatically for the next mix and hope I can sync things up a bit better. Your idea about a second verse is also something to think about, although I was trying to keep the song to around three minutes long, but maybe I'll experiment a little and see what might turn up. Thanks again, Mark, I always look forward to and really appreciate your great input and ideas! Have a good one! Bob ======================================== kevinwal: Hey, Kevin, Thanks for giving this a listen for me, and I truly appreciate you good input and encouraging comments! Yes, Sir, as I mentioned to Mark up above, drums have always been my "kryptonite" when I'm working on my stuff, and unfortunately, I tend to go off the reservation a lot. I'm hoping to get the verse drums to gel better for the next mix of this, hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again for checking this out and commenting, that's what makes this place so great! Have a great night, Kevin! Bob =========================================

mikeinFL: Hi, Mike, Thanks very much for popping in to check this one out for me and for your good observations and kind words! I just posted Mix #2 with some changes to the first verse drums, just going for some rhythmic accent hits instead of a full drum part. Hopefully, this locked in the timing during the first verse a bit better. I just want to mention that your latest post for your orchestral piece "A Secret Lake" was absolutely fantastic, really amazing work! Thanks again, I really appreciate you taking time to listen and comment! Have a great night, Mike! Bob ================================ TheMaartian: Hey, John, Thanks for giving this a listen and for your very kind words, greatly appreciated, my friend! Yep, LOL, I used to get a lot of "Bob Oister Cult" greetings back in the day, and I even actually did a few BOC songs in my cover bands over the years including Don't Fear The Reaper, Godzilla and one of my personal favorites, Burning For You. Actually saw them in concert three times, always put on a great show! Thanks again for checking this out and commenting, have a good one! Bob ================================

Hi Bob, I reckon this is your best song yet, excellent stuff. Very tasty solo, love that lick at 2:07 - goosebumps! Great lead and backing vocals, you nailed those. Drums are working well on this except the first (only?) verse..not sure what's going on there, I can't pick up on the beat at all when I'm listening. Will have another go, maybe it's just me.

I love your style Bob. I think the drums will always be fighting the guitars and bass on a mix of this kind. I believe you found a good place for the drum as they don't overpower yet I can clearly hear them. That solo was killer....the double on your voice also adds a special touch to the vox. So glad to see you still out there playing and making records!

ohgrant: Hey, Grant, Big thanks, buddy, I always really appreciate your input, observations, and also your kind words of encouragement! Yes, Sir, I went back in and removed the full drums from the verse and just played some hi-hat and half-tempo drum accents to keep them from interfering with the verse guitar riff, and at 4:30 this morning I tightened up the verse drum accent timing a little more. I’m hoping it’s much better than the original full straight 4/4 drums I started out with. Thanks again, Grant, always grateful for your input, friendship and support! Bob ============================================================== String Jammer: Hey, Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for jumping right in on this, I’m absolutely thrilled to have you back on the forum, and always appreciate you lending your great ears to my stuff! Yep, this one’s a little different than a lot of my stuff, but hopefully still in my wheelhouse, I’m very grateful that you like it. Looking forward to hearing your excellent music here on the forum again! Have a great night, buddy! Bob ================================================================ jamesg1213: Hey, James, Thank you, Sir, I’m truly grateful to you for all your excellent input, suggestions and support on my stuff over these past few years, and I value your friendship very highly! I’m not sure if you listened to the first mix with full drums during the first verse, or the second mix with just hi-hats and drum accent hits. Either way, this morning I uploaded a slightly revised Mix 3 with the verse drum accents tightened up a bit with the single note guitar riff, hopefully, it’s simpler than the original 4/4 full drums and not a distraction. Your latest Nettlesmith post with Tim is a really nice tribute to his Grandfather, and your solos were very tasteful and perfect for the song. Great stuff as always, James! Best Wishes, Bob ========================================================= thepogue: Hey, Tom, How are you, me brudda from anudda mudda? Hope you’re doing great! Thanks so much for lending your ears to this and for your very encouraging comments! I especially appreciate your comments on the drums, because they always seem to be the hardest thing for me, and I usually run into trouble with them. Many times even after ironing out my drum timing issues, I end up struggling and nitpicking over the drum bus EQ and volume levels, either blending with or competing with the heavier, thick guitars, so on my last few posts, I’ve done a lot of EQ carving to try to get the drums and guitars to sit better together. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I’m finally getting some better definition out of things. Thanks again, Tim for all your good input and support! Just had a listen to the latest mix - sounds great! It has your typical punchy mix (which is a good thing!) and the vocals are as always a high spot for me. However... that is a pretty cool solo too.
