Wow, this is really nice work! Kind of a Pink Floyd meets Yes vibe happening which I very much dig. Fantastic playing all around and a super mix with clarity to die for. Is this available for sale now? Just super work.

thanks biodiode, appreciate the support and comment... windows 'surface' speakers... didn't know what those were till you mentioned them... most tablets sound rubbish. i can't quite wrap my head around the idea that anything could sound good on something like this, especially with these huge synths! i bet you're missing at least half the music! \but, the fact that you say it sounds good on those, means it is translating fairly well, which is a good thing

That is the reason why I provide my listening station in most of my posts so you get the idea that the mix translates well on great to okay to bad speakers. Whether it's helpful, well I would like to think so :)

Of course I love the prog rock vibe here, very tastefully done. The synth stuff just makes such a great mood to color over, and you were judicious with the guitar work instead of ruining it. (I wish Mars Volta would have learned that lesson...) Vocal work sounded interesting too. I'm gonna guess you won't tell a fella what you did there, huh? At times it sounded like it was modulated or modulating a synth, then other times I wondered if my ears were just fooled and it was really just a well sung, doubled vocal track. I always like listening to your stuff. I'm prolly gonna have to buy that CD.... Rock and prog go together like chocolate and peanut butter.

appreciate the comments, zargg, yes, the idea was to take the listener pretty far away, or very far within Rikkie Hi BB and John, that's quite a production, interesting until the end to say the least, excellent job you two ! Rik

that's a good idea, biodiode, cuz most of the time, i'm looking for translation issues..... of course, some mix problems start out as subjective choices, but sometimes they're just plain wrong!! LOL so i need all the help i can get

PROG.... yes, the evil 4 letter word.... i don't really set out to write something progressive, and in this case, i was really just following John's lead.... but all of my stuff ends up having a prog vibe... all i did on vox, was just sing... no fx, except for typical compression and either delay, reverb, or a combo of both.. i DID sing the leads twice, and blend them, so sometimes there is a bit of comb filtering happening naturally, which i just live with. i can sing almost identical parts twice in a row, but i purposefully try to sing one a little different, so the blend does NOT sound studio perfect.. i WANT the feel of a rock approach, so it's not so dialed in..... that'd be my punk and garage band ethos coming thru......! LOL

thanks stevec, for listening and diggin' it! LOL one of the things that appealed to me most about working with john on this, was the fact that we were coming from two different places. i thought it totally worked, of course, every project is unique, and some work better than others.

Drama era Yes meets Dave Gilmour with the regimented feel of early King Crimson. Nice... maybe less compression on the drums to give it a more raw feel.
