"Mister Responsible"

This is a complete re-recording of my song "Mr. Responsible" which has been up a long time now. I lost the master files to the original recording when a hard drive crashed on my computer right after I finished recording it so I never got to finish mixing and mastering it.I never thought the old version had the sound or feel that I was after. This version is a lot closer to what I had in mind. I hope you like it. I'd really appreciate any thoughts anybody might have on the mix, it's still a work in progress..... Thanks a lot for listening!

    No takers, huh?
Well, I just have to assume that either:

    a) The mix is just really bad and nobody wants to hurt my feelings

                                           -or-

    b) The mix is perfect and there is nothing more to be said

    Either way, thanks for listening.

I didn't see this one before, sorry.  This is a very good production.  I love the tune and what you've done with it.  I think others will pick up on it, just need a bump now and then till it gets in the flow.  I'll tell you something; I wouldn't change a thing on this song.  I loved it!  Love the lead guitar.  Vocals are perfect, percussion fits and a nice bass tone with great guitars.   Go figure, I didn't know you Kentucky boys could rock like this.  Love that transition going into the verse at about 2:28 made me move.  Is this song downloadable?

Cool tune! Really nice performances all round.

Mix-wise, the guitar on the left is loud enough to distract from the vocals, and the whole track is quite 'brittle' sounding, so I'd maybe back off the highs.

Hey man, thanks so much, really appreciate the kind words. Yeah, we rock a little bit now and then around here, LOL. The song is downloadable on my SoundClick page, thanks for asking.
I went to your page and took a listen to "Sweet Enough" and "Broke Again Blues" and I'm a Pugtones fan now, Bigtime! The arrangement and vocals on "Sweet" are outstanding and I loved the blues harp on "Broke". And your recordings sound great, just clean and clear as a bell. Great work!
Thanks again for the listen and comments!

Hi James, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I wondered about the left channel guitar, but I left it where it was because it pretty much is the signature sound of the tune. But you're prolly right, it might could come down a bit. As for the "brittleness" of the mix, heh heh, I guess that just comes from getting old, I've lost a lot of high end hearing and I'm probably compensating too much. I'll have to revisit the EQ on it I reckon.
Hey bud, I've been listening to Slow Marching Band for a long time, really enjoy your stuff. My favorite are "Mrs. White and the Blue Bucket" and "Dead Man's Stare". I also got really stoked when I first saw the tune about Litchfield, 'cause there's a Litchfield in Eastern Kentucky. It's in the mountains and your music takes me back there.
    Thanks a lot!

songwise, it's great. reminds me of "johnny b good" especially with that lead guitar. i agree that the mix rode the highs a little bit.

I think that the constant harmony takes away from the impact of the words though.

Thanks so much Dena, I appreciate the kind comments. I'll be revisiting the mix tonight, see if I can take care of that high end issue, LOL
I DID Google you, listened to all of your songs...WOW what a voice! You have a truly unique style and top notch song writing. Is that you playing guitar on the "live" cut? Nice. I'll be listening to you often now, thanks!

Thanks for the listen Tim, glad you liked the song. You think I should lose some of the harmony huh? I dunno, spent a lot of time getting that just so, might be hard to talk myself into that, LOL. Something to think about though...
BTW: I just bought "Never Let You Go", what a fine CD! I'll be listening intently to see if I can steal some of your production values, heh heh. Seriously though, it's great work, I really enjoy your music, when's the new one coming out?

Wow, Thanks for the support Bob. Very kind of you and glad you like it. Don't know about a new one yet:)

As far as losing the harmony, idunno, that's up to you I guess. I would think if you took it out here and there, it would make it more special when it came back in and probably let the lead voc stand out a little better on it's own.

Sorry the tasty freeze didn't work out:)

    Thanks again Bob.

This is helluva good. I agree with the other poster who mentioned the guitar in the left channel being a bit distracting, it could maybe come down a bit while there's singing and then come back up a bit in the instrumental passages.

I think if you didn't get rid of the vox harmony completely, just took it down a couple of decibels you might satisfy everyone!

Liked it so much, I'm listening to it again!

    Cheers,
    Terry.

Great song! It reminds me of ELO meets The Moody Blues a lot with the harmonies and performance.

    Very well done!

Good song, sounds Travis Tritt-ish to me. I am hearing some funky cymbal phasing through my headphones in a few parts, could be the SoundClick encoding process.. Good performance and full of energy.. Regards

Darn rs, this was really well done! I soo love that dirty rhythm on the left side...maybe a little too loud in spots though perhaps? You know me...I'm a dirty lil boy..lol...I love that stuff. I just felt at times that one guitar might have been over-powering things just a bit.

Other than that...I loved this! It kinda reminded me of a heavy Skynyrd at times. Like evadian said...I'd not change anything with this....other than that one left side guitar maybe...loved the vocals, guitar playing, vibe of the song, the hook...this was just loaded with fun. I didn't hear any excessive high end in the mix like some reported...maybe you remixed it since then...but none of that showed up on my end. I hope the Skynyrd thing doesn't bother you...one of my fave bands...I just almost found myself singin' "what was your name...lil girl" and it hit me like that. Meant with utmost respect...killer piece, thanks for sharing it. :)
