Hi All

I have this new song.  I got the idea for the arrangement from one of songs from this forum .  Please let me know what you think.

what a beautiful arraignment...and fantastic playing..

I'd like to hear a bit more warmth in the guitar...and I'm not crazy over the snare sound...too harsh.....if it were live I'd take a bit of the  outta the bottom......lil bit too much rattling...warm this baby up a bit and you've got a winner...

just set the mix back a bit and not make it so aggressive...

    very very nice tune!

An outstandingly beautiful piece of music. The lyrical flow of this piece is perfect and the musicianship wonderful. I would agree with thepogue that the snare doesn't quite work but very much like the enhancement to the beat that it provides. I would just change it to a deeper drum.

    Best Regards

thepogue, Malcolm  Thanks for the comments. I warmed up the guitars a bit and back off the snares.  I agree they were a bit too forward.  It is so good to have another set of ears.
Rockinbobby  Ah..  hmm...  Don't know what to do.  Let me talk to my uncle who is a lawyer Mr Sosueme, but he going drag his cousing who is an accountant Mr. Mokachin.  I am sure they will figure something together. ;)

    Yea....its getting there....here's another thought...

the guitar and kit both seem to have a verb setting that place them in a small room setting. All the accompanying instrumentation are in a hall like setting which puts an odd space between the two...try enlarging the guitar/kit room with different verb settings to bring the two a bit closer together...that too will smooth out the guitar/snare some.  IMHO it still needs some smoothing out....what I do is EQ (the guitar lets say) to the point where its a bit muddy and then slowly make my way back until I have string detail. Slow Marching Band (James and Larry) have this down to a science to be sure!

Love the tune and your playing is quite impressive!

thepogue  Thanks for the suggestions, I see what you are saying.  Let me see if I can put them in the same space.
    timidi, notnat  Thanks for listening
morenoise  I am using a Martin D28 which I mic'ed using two KSM27.  I angled them 90 degrees.  That is why it picks up some small screatches and fingering taps.  I tried putting pillows in front of the fingerboard to mute it, but still these mic pick them up.  I put a compressor and some eq but no reverb on the track.  It is picking some reverb from the small room.  I also put a small piece of paper under the bridge on the high E string to mute it a bit, because it had an annoying high ringing.

Wow this is nice!  You play beautifully.  What are you using to record the guitar?

I do have to agree about the snare... It is a bit snappy for my liking.  I would like to hear one that is tuned lower.  This sounds like a picolo snare (Very thin).

IMHO I kind of like the small verb on the guitar...Makes it feel intimate.

HA You answered my Miking question before I even posted it...I DO love the sound of Martin guitars.  Got a D15 myself.

Hi Vicente, I actually like to hear an actual person playing and not a computer. And as guitarplayers we both know it's impossible to play a guitar without finger noise, at least thats my excuse . Nice sounding guitar though.

    Vicente,

Beautiful song, love the guitar playing.  String arrangement is very good.  Flows really well as a whole and is quite refreshing.  Nice ebb and flow....

Can't put my finger on it but when the drums start to pickup around 1:32 they don't quite seem to fit in with the rest of the song (at least through my computer speakers).   Not sure if it is just the snare or the whole kit in the louder sections, but needs some distance/ambience...

Nicely played.   Like the Nuno Bettencourt riffs at the end.

patm300e I am using a EMU 1616m to record and it is a heaven sent.  No latency, no latency, no latency!  It has pretty good preamps and converters.  However, one of the input channels is noisy.  Looks like they were a bit aggressive in the analog design to get the specs up.
markno999 Let me see if I get change to another snare with a lower pitch.  Thanks for listening
morenoise Yeah, that is why I usually use the built in pickup, but for this song, I had to go with the mic.

I just called them and poor Screwum retired? However they promoted a junior partner "Cheatum" to partner, so they'll be in touch soon! Dewy, Cheatum, and Howe! (they're Ruthless...) It used to be Dewy, Cheatum, Howe, and Ruth? But they had to let her go...

Got a updated version with the reverb on the drums and a bit more on the guitar per thepogue suggestions.  It does smooth things up.

    Alegria, Phil thanks for listening

Rockinrobby Well, Mr Sozueme and Mr Mokachin will certainly be expecting your call.  I heard that they go thru some ceremony before they start that will make all money dissapear!

superb Vicente, from a guitar and song POV, but i feel the backing material could come up a bit. personally i'd not bother with a drum kit but use a different form of percussion. awesome guitar playing.

Just beautiful.  :-)  I love everything about it.  I like the subtle percussion.  (well, not so subtle in the middle, but I still like it.)  :-)   The guitar playing is very, very nice and the strings are just right.  That outtro is just right to my ears too.  Beautiful!

(OK, maybe at the very end, you might consider having everything stop at the very same time.  I expected to hear the strings just a second or two longer.)

Your guitar playing is excellent agian Vicente and it's a nice piece for sure. I do find myself wondering what it would sound like without the drums - not having a go at your drums again - they do sound better, but I think that maybe that this piece doesn't really need it  - or maybe just some lighter percussion to really focus on the star on the guitar.

Very nice. I enjoyed this a lot.

At the end, the guitar by itself has a boxy sound. And I thought overall it could have been just a bit brighter...the guitar and the mix as a whole.

No big deal though... it was relaxing.

    Thumbs up on the song.

Biabdude, not sure what you mean that drums are too dry.  Need more reverb?
mgh, let me play around with another drum set
paulo I tried that and I like it with the drums.
janet , longer strings at the end, ok
guitarhacker yeah, I was bothered by the boxy sound on the guitar.  Let me play with some EQ

Guitar intro plus strings ... so exquisite and excellent to my ears.

I sort of expected vocals (which might have room for, IMHO).

You've gently pushed the perussives back giving this a watery texture and a soothing comfort.

Outro riff is astonishing and caps this piece as sweetly as the intro.

... Sorry, but I love this much more than your last piece (with its 'westernized' guitar riffs).  Being biased toward euphonic performances of late (which I know I'm weak at) ... The sensitive and skillful harplike 'eastern' guitar riffs, solos, and performances win my heart, mind, and soul on this song.

Beautiful tune and well played! I'd ditch the cello from the intro as it tends to clash with the guitar. All but the snare and the cello in the intro, I love it!
