I think you nailed TOP's sound! Excellent work! Love how the wide keys add interest between the horns.

Nice work, with the keys, guitars, drums, horns, all authentic to the genera. . .

The drums may could come back a tad, but please take that with a grain of salt. Good job on the tune, really good all the way around.

    Dan, John, Robbie, and Tim:
Thanks so much for listening and commenting guys, I'm glad you liked the tune
John, thanks for the kind words on my guitar work.
Robbie, you may be right about the drums, but I felt for this style they really needed to be "in your face". I thought about doing the same with the bass but pushing it too hard made the mix just to muddy for me too handle. I probably should have recorded it with more high end.
Tim, isn't that a killer solo? Of course I didn't play it, my keyboard skills are pretty much limited to step recording and I can get horn lines done after 20 or so takes :) . The keyboards were done by a buddy of mine who insists I credit him as Ebony Z. Ivory. He's a bit strange but he never lets me down.
Dan, saying I nailed T.O.P.'s sound is a huge compliment for me, much appreciated!

    Thanks again guys!

This so good in so many ways. There is so much stuff going on in any given TOP song and you got that nailed.

Fantastic stuff Bob, really got my head bobbing here I love the placing of the BGV's and that telephone vocal aside 'You might want to fix your collar', nice little touches. Excellent short guitar solo too.

Monster tune! Love it... It's got a vibe that's what matters to me most (sounds good as well but that's secondary).
So it wasn't ELO then  !

Dont know this band, but I do love funk.

I think this is awesome, with some gnarley solo instrumentation here (that stevie wonder style "as" rhodes solo particularly like tim said).
A fantastic funk landscape painted with all the right instrumentation.

"you might wanna fix your collar", just loved that line for some reason. Some great atitude to the vocals.

I don't have much more to add than that.

Herb - don't now about the summit but I sure had a lot of fun on the climb. Thanks!
James - head bobbing and hip shaking are the ultimate goals here, so I'm glad to hear that!
Ruben - I was a big fan of theirs for a long time, then I got to see them live and was just amazed! Such energy and precision in a live show just completely killed me! So glad you enjoyed it!
Robbie - Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment again, really appreciate it!
Alex - The vibe is EVERYTHING isn't it? LOL, no, not ELO but that might be fun too.....thanks for the kind words!
Cian - Thanks very much, it took me a long time to get the vocals the way I wanted them, heh, there's a lot of words there and I kept forgetting which line went where. After a LOT of takes I had finally learned them and was able to deliver them properly.
If you don't know Tower Of Power (T.O.P.) do yourself a monster favor and look them up. They were (are) from Oakland, California and were at their prime in the 70s and 80s although they are still together, although not with a lot of the original members. They had a bassist named Rocco Prestia (who also produced their albums) who was a mad man, one of the most overlooked bassists in history IMHO. Later a guy named Victor Conte took over on bass, he later came to fame (or infamy) in the Balco steroid scandal.
Also, the Tower Of Power horn section has appeared on countless recordings through the years, they set the standard for funk/rock horn sections for decades.

Thanks so much for your comments guys!

Excellent!  It might have taken 20 takes but the horns sound great.  The vocals and BGV's and timing on these are perfect for the style.  Sounds like you had a lot of fun doing this number.

Mark, thanks very much! I had a "professional" reviewer tell me a while back my vocals were too "self conscious" and I should try for more attitude and style. I thought he was full of horse hocky. I sing the way I sing. Some songs need attitude, some don't, I think. Glad you had fun and enjoyed it!

Lynn, you are too kind! Words like that coming from you mean a lot. There are so many talented, gifted people here it really motivates me too work harder. Really appreciated!

Freddy, I had a blast! I always wanted to be in a band with a killer horn section and somehow never got the chance, this is the next best thing. I've listened to so many horn arrangements over the years I want to put them in everything. If I recorded "Amazing Grace" I'd probably try to fill it with brass, LOL.

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!

I've listen a lot to T.O.P. (have most records) and I must say you really nailed the sound! Specially I like the hammond, it sounds like the older (In the slot f.ex.) songs. And as many have said the horns are great. It was a pleasure listen to this!

Ruben - The horns are N.I. Session Horns. All keyboards were done with Komplete 9; Vintage Organs, Scarbee Vintage Keys, and Session Strings. The drums are Addictive Drums. Guitars are my Tele (rhythm) and Les Paul (solo) through Guitar Rig 5. The bass is my Yamaha through Amplitube 3.

I had a listen to this a couple of days ago but wasn't in the mood, came back for another listen and I am impressed. I think this is one of the toughest styles of music to mix cause there is so much going on, but you have nailed it I think. Everything clean, clear and in just the right spot. Drums and vocals which are the two things that could've gotten lost, muddied or messed up were sublime.
    Really well done.

To write a song with this much going on and have it all hang together so well is really impressive. Incredibly good instrumentation. The sounds are great. And the playing is spot on.
