"Printing" UAD Twin USB effects with Virtual Instruments into Sonar Platinum

Greetings, all

I just upgraded to a new computer, went from Sonar 7 Pro to Platinum, AND changed my interface to the new Apollo Twin USB..... perhaps, as an old guy opposed to change, I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But, no turning back now, so I'm seeking help from those much smarter than myself!

The UA plugs are just insanely good.  And, being an old guy, I'm not at all skeered to record "wet" signals and commit to my efx up front like back in the day.  With the DSP hungry plug ins, I'd like to be able to commit with the plug ins then remove them so I can..... of course! Use more UAD Plug ins!

I'd love to hear how to perform my virtual instruments, do any MIDI editing that I need to do to make it sound like I know how to actually play an instrument.... then route that performance into audio files.  Again, this isn't to avoid CPU draw on my new creation station.... I swear, I can barely tickle that meter with this new beast. This is to print the virtual instrument with the EFFECTS from the Apollo twin into Sonar.

I've always been amazed at the knowledge out there among my fellow Sonar-ians. And, you're also so kind to not mock me for my lack of the same... at least, not to my face!

Great day to you all, and thanks for chiming in if you can help an OG out.

Scott

like mixing on the old desks, you have a few options.
you can use the track FX bin then render that but what you may find more flexible is using AUX tracks.
just route the midi output for said track to a new AUX track. insert all your FX, select record for the AUX track and fire away.
this way you can have either both, wet and dry (dry so you can redo if needed) and a permanent wet track.
after recording is complete you can always delete the track and keep the AUX track.
however like you, im not afraid of committing to wet FX on tracks either. however years from now you may say...I wish I had the dry track.
so at minimum, archive the dry track, bounce the clip and save it elsewhere, exc. then just keep the wet ones in your project. AUX tracks were built for stuff like this.

Brilliant, Chuck E Baby! I think I accidentally clicked and created an aux track the other day.... not something I ever utilized in Sonar 7, if it even existed similarly. But, that would certainly allow me to utilize the DSP hog plugs, then remove them from the "dry" track. As you say, I'm not opposed to saving it for that, "Um.... huh..... perhaps I got a little too cute printing that 'Bottom Of A Well' verb and now I can't get out!".  So long as I make a note of what I used, I could go back and re-do if needed.

Sure appreciate the help. Can't wait to give it a go.
