"Proud Of The South" Original by Craig W

Hi Group,

A couple of months ago I finished this one and wanted to post it on the Internet but just haven't gotten around to it yet with work and all of life's callings.

It's a song that brings up issues of our Country's past and IMO those issues have been dealt with in a very positive way. All American's have great opportunity to make something of themselves in this Land and we should focus on the future and not dwell in the past.

I had to pull out the old Banjo for this one.

Please have a listen.... I hope you like it..... Don't forget to Crank it up!!

P.S. I decided not to post the Lyrics here but listen to them closely. They say things that need to be said!!!

Craig

PS. I leveled the vocals a little more and eq'd and brought out the snare with the  Boz Miller 10db channel strip
after some suggestions from the group.  Thanks guys

    Nice work.

I'm listening on cheap speakers but it sounds good.  Excellent guitar playing. Loved the vocals too.

Some things I noticed.  The snare sounds really squished.  The vox seemed to be a few dB too loud for the style.

This is a Journey meets Skynard style..... really well done with just a few sonic nits.

Journey meets Skynard = .38 Special

Another really good mix. Snare is a little squished, but not so much that it sounds bad, but it did lose a little meat.

BGV are up a little too much in a couple of spots, where they bury the instruments.  To my ears, it sounds like you mixed them so the "oohs" don't get lost, which makes the other sections too loud. I'd level them first so they are easier to mix.

Main vocal is okay where it is, IMO.

I made some adjustments based on your comments. Let me know if you can hear the difference.

    Thanks Dan,

I made some adjustments this morning. Let me know if you think the snare is better and the BGV's are more balanced.

I think this new version is definitely better. Snare sounds thicker and the BGV ride alongside the main vocal without jumping up front. Now I can hear the other instruments clearly. Good job!

I just got to work and listened to it again...... It's close but the snare is a tad too loud and a little on the "boxy" side.
I'll fix that when I get home tonight. Gotta add maybe a little crack to it too.... but pulling the boxy freqs. out may give the balance I need without layering a sample.

    Thanks for the critique.

Nice...  Big, wide mix with great playing all around and (as per usual) really excellent vocals and harmonies.  It does sound a bit like 21st century .38 Special featuring Neal Schon on lead guitar.
