Hey, Rob, this was my favorite tune after I came down from "Time Is Magic". Yesterday, Take it All, Trouble and BatsBrew are my goin' up the hill tunes. Pura Vida is a bit more for relaxing going down. I kn ow this song means something to you too. Great mix and tune AND playing.

hey warren! i'm glad you like this tune, this is one ofthe more 'up-beat' tunes on the Trouble album. I'm going to have this whole album up on Itunes soon... marcos thanks man. scotty you probably heard this one, way back when it was a demo! and then, the version off the album..... thanks man, glad you dig it. gist- super thanks! Morenoise thanks rik, glad you liked it, and thanks for the interest... track notes below----> twisted6s thanks a lot mesh appreciate the comment!...... ok, to answer your question: ok, some tech background: I used my 2001 Taylor 414 for the guitar tracks... close miced with a Audio Technica 4033 and a ADK Hamburg. there's no real trick to the mics, i just have to put on the headphones (since i am my own engineer!) and 'listen' to what the mics hear, and move them around until i get what i want out of them. my idea is, to get them as close as possible, but not pickup finger noise, or heavy breathing, or burping or rustling pants noise, that kind of stuff. run that, into the mic pre: A Designs Audio MP-1, into a DBX MC-6 compressor, and into a convertor. i use that compressor for color, and to just kiss the levels down, i would guess 2db with a medium attack and longish release..i print this IF i hear it right in the tracking headphones. typically, one mic pointed at the bridge, another pointed at about the 12th fret. sometimes, i'll float the mics over my shoulders, looking down on the guitar, the same as my ears would be hearing it from above the guitar.... but this is usually more trouble than it's worth, and you pick up more room sound, than when it's directly pointing at the guitar. the vox, the same setup as the guitar... i might have tracked a couple of backup vox with a sm57, but i prefer the ADK on my voice. adds a little grit. bongos, shaker, done with the AT4033. bass is a carvin LB 70 thru a sansamp bass DI and into the same preamp setup. this started out as a loose demo, and rather than start it over, i just built onto it with more tracks.

well.... I was not expecting that... a mix of the Greatful Dead, with Crosby Stills and Nash, and Stix like vocals... I kept getting flashes of Marrakess Express in there. Most excellent playing and singing.

I seldom post in the forums and when I do it's usually just to make some kind of stupid, obscure joke. But this project truly stands out and deserves the highest of praise. It pretty much makes me want to sell all my equipment and give up because I could never do anything this good. Absolutely awesome! Kudos to you! My only critiqie would be that it may sound a bit dated and unappreciated by the younger gernerations but what do they know about good music. (Jeez, did I just hear my father saying that?) Pete

I played this song over and over again because I really enjoyed it that much! I kept soaking in the performance. This song was so good I couldn't resist playing around with it. You did such an incredible job with this but to my ears it sounded as though something was off just a tiny, little bit. So.....after playing with it I realized it sounded better if it was just a tad brighter with a very small boost somewhere around the 2.5 Hz to 6.5 Hz area. Sorry, I don't know the right technical lingo to use but I can tell you it just seemed to make it "shine" more if that makes any sense to you. Give it shot and see if don't agree. Amazing, amazing job though, I'm really impressed! Your real name wouldn't happen to be John Anderson would it? Pete

Excellent work as always. You always have impressive work, I've come to expect it. I've been on the utlimate 6 string kick. I just bought a $7000 archtop and the flattops I've been looking at are $3200 - $5000. I can't bring myself to broach the subject with my wife... at least not until the $7000 fades a bit from memory ;>) Well played! Daryl

rhynosynth thanks a lot, rik emmett, don't hear that name dropped everyday. i remember when triumph first came out, i was digging all that stuff. clean thanks mark. i dig the acoustic stuff as much as the electric, just don't record as much of it... tap glad you dig it! bub thanks man, appreciate the listen. peter rabbit thank you for the kind words.... dated, yea, well, i can't play it or arrange it or record it any other way than the way it is, i just gotta roll with it! i don't care for a lot of 'modern' recording sounds and techniques, so they can have it! i'm just trying to capture warm natural sounds, without any gimmicks. i think it will stand the test of time. johnnyV thanks man... you know, the label i was on, went belly up.... and so i kinda have to deal with no distribution at the moment. if you really want a CD, just pm me..... but my intent is to put the "Trouble" album up on CDBaby as a download, after i put my new one up that i'm working on right now.... jsaras thank you! Peter- appreciate your comments on this song.... i'm glad you dig it. this was professionally mastered, so i have to bow out of any formal discussion of the mastering technique, other than to say the mastering engineer gave me exactly what i wanted, didn't change my character of my mix at all, and i wanted a 'warm' and NOT harsh overall EQ, and i think i got that..... Jon Anderson, is such a great natural singer.... but i never sang any of his tunes, i think it's just by accident that sometimes i must sound similar.... Paulo thanks a lot for listening and commenting. another jon vote. LOL maybe i should do a cover of "I've seen all good people"..... daryl appreciate that daryl, thanks. good luck hiding that archtop! LOL
