"Road To Tabriz"
"Road To Tabriz" preview of an upcoming all-instrumental album i'm considering releasing. i've got 6 of these finished, about 4 more almost done. this one is a rock instrumental, fast tempo with spacey breakdown, lots of strat tones, jamming bass line, harmony guitar parts, a bit progressive. any mix suggestions as i get this thing dialed in? http://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/road-to-tabriz Some archeologist suggested that Garden of Eden must have been located in Tabriz, the history of civilization in the city has been dated to the first millennium B.C

Loved this...the time sig changes were beautifully done, really slick. Great guitar tones too, and some mighty fine playing.

Very trippy. It wouldn't be hard to imagine Jeff Beck doing this. Please keep writing and posting.

Well I don't know if Gonzo is your name but you are one of the best muso's on this board. Not my favorite tune, it had moments of King Crimson but I can appreciate the playing. I have to do this with King Crimson too. Just keep an eye on those low mids, I'm not too sure about the energy in the low mids. I'm going to have put some 90's Crimson on now to see how my speakers handle their low-mids. But overall your a rockstar. Great Job Ben

There's not much you can't like about this. Tone, mix, content, arrangement. This is actually one of my favorites of yours, which are all quite good. This has a little bit a Johnny A feel and I'm a big Johnny A fan. Daryl

Mix crits? Are you kidding? Out-fricken-standing. This is the bat I know. Next time I hear something low-fi from you, I will remember that its probably intentional. Perfect mix IMO. Ready for the presses. Love this.

Yea........I was just thinking exactly what Ben was saying about being one of the best on this board, while I listened to your song. I always try to listen to your stuff because ,well it's rock, for one thing, and your mixes are always outstanding. Like the bluesy kinda swing feel, very original. Didn't really remind me of anyone in particular, which is good. You know I still have that Aerosmith cover you did, and I still listen to it occasionally. You know, the one with the dude that sounds like Ian Gillan. I loathe covers. And I don't even like the Aerosmith version half as much as yours. Your music is really great, but man, I wish you would do an LP with that guy. You have the sound and the chops and he's got the voice. And there are no bands like that around anymore. All the older greats have been sterilized by the music Industry. And most newer bands just plain suck, imo. Oh well, just a thought. Anyway, awesome song. Looking forward to more.

benmmustech hey, thanks for the kind words. i appreciate that. king crimson, you know, i learned '21st century schizoid man' when i was young, just starting to get into it.... i liked the idea of saying i could play one king crimson tune. LOL i never studied any later crimson for 'mixing' ideas, but low mids are for me, an important element, i like them to push the sound a bit. i don't like whimpy low end, but i also hate mud. and whoof. so, i'm constantly trying new methods of controlling lows, i have hit on few things i like, and am starting to develop some habits i like, but i'm still searching. plus, i've been listening to a lot of todd rundgren lately, and his mixes **** me all up for low end, he has very bright and low end-light mixes...... not good for my own thing!

metalteK hey, thanks for listening to this one. i've put up a lot of 'songs' with vocals, but not that many instrumentals, i just don't know how accessible they are, or how many people like hearing rock or prog instrumentals..... now, this aerosmith thing has really thrown me. i've never done an aerosmith cover. never, in my life. i like aerosmith, but don't know a single bloody song. now, ian gillan was the singer for deep purple. and i DID do a cover of 'highway star', with xenophile, and i actually sang on that cover. so, more confusion ensues........ LOL but that's ok, you liked my song, and i'm glad.

Well, that was quite a rewarding listen for me. Very dynamic piece and the composition was awesome. This would be great with some vocals in it, but stands well on it own merit. Another great work from the batsbrew. Blessings, John

this one is a more progressive offering, and true to it's influences (brand x, happy the man, cosmosquad, stuff like that) it's more of a one-way journey... it's supposed to be a trip.......'road to tabriz'....... and when you go along a road, normally you don't double back... you just keep going, seeing new sights, learning new things along the way. thats the way this particular piece was written. the trick is, to keep the 'riffs', melodies, sounds and grooves changing often enough to keep the trip short, and sweet. non repetitive, just interesting. that was the goal, anyways!

thanks wookie! appreciate it... yes, it's short and sweet, i think for folks that aren't necessarily fans of prog rock or rock instrumentals, if i can write them short and sweet, and throw enough interesting melody and changeups in there, i can maybe hold onto them to the end of the tune!! LOL beck.... he's definitely one of a few touchstones in the old memory catalog.
