"THREE WOMEN" {a studio project}

an odd, bizarre hard rock Seattle-sound grungy grooving type thang...with a string quartet intro that some may find slightly annoying with the cacophony of baby cries in the mix lol - long story behind quasi-nonsensical lyrics that isn't quite PG-13 but involves these three liberally inclined lovely young ladies who back in NYC/Manhattan used to regularly and spontaneously 'perform' these open air exhibitionist orgies on the rooftop of their apartment building for any/all to see who had a high enough vantage-point ;p

guitars are all Jaguars played though Marshall JCM heads and 4x12s
Pearl Masters drums
bass is direct via tube pre-amp
violin/viola/cello are samples triggered on synth keyboard
can't remember where we got the climax sample i think it might have been the engineer's girlfriend  and/or private fantasy sound file lol
rhythm guitar tracks recorded live with drummer and bassist in separation rooms for live feel
no extreme vocal layering; just one melody and harmony as most of song is sung w/ harmonized melody. no FX

THREE WOMEN
© Daren Thomas Turner / MRI

this one's for all you people
who are inside of me
this one's for all of you who never die and never sleep
this one is not my business because i do not care
i have this fantasy that i am never really there
this one's a hot potato and i am eating it cold...
there are three women coming at once in the open air
this one's for all you people who got inside for free
this one's for all of you who never say hello to me
this one is just like christmas...it comes just once a year
this one's for all of you who say(stay) a lot and never hear
this one's just like monday...this one's such a bore
but my three women welcome the way of the stop and stare

Nu nu nu niiiice!!!!! Enjoyed that. I think what impressed me the most is the difficulty of the vocals. Not easy. Outstanding work. Outfriggenstanding.

Holy crap, I guess I have missed a few of your latest songs. I was reading through some posts and I guess I left it on your song... after the next two played through I said what the heck am I listening too? Went back and realized it was still you. Outstanding work man. I love the one right after this, and then the nice rocky after it. Blown away... ohh.. what on now (still on your channel).. something dark and evil... this should be good... ooooo a skrillex like dubstep... lol... love it. I think I have said this before, but what are you doing here? Get out there and find a contract man. Stop posting your work or you never will.

OK I got to ask.....The baby crying on the beginning is that something you actually recorded and do you know this kid, or was that a loop from somewhere. The reason why I ask is because it sounds just like one of my coworkers. Man you got their sound down.

All kidding aside I enjoyed the song. The vocals turned out great

hey thanks much Daryl, Shad, and Marcus.  very humbled...also Shad it means a lot to hear what you are posting; would be nice to not just make websites all day for a living ;p  also indeed the vox were a bit tricky- if you listen closely my harmony vox descends scalically in the 1st two verses and then it ascends in the 3rd one for harmonic color

& Marcus, to answer your query, who knows maybe it's your coworkers' kids crying ;p -  they are samples triggered via keyboard and each cry is tuned to pitch of each key so there are 12 'cries' in all keys.  i am 'playing' them along with and in tune with the 'string quartet'  intro.   they are kinda freaky as Daryl said-- seemed like a neat idea at the time lol -- so i kept it in as a 'oh that's kinda different' audio device

i am diggin Steve's heavy double-kick pattern in the two 'bridges' ( the last of which is also the outro ) as they contrast nicely to the shuffle-hihat patterns he's doing in the verses and choruses

much gratitude again for feedback  -

Daren, I often think that your best instrument is your voice.  Its unique texture and versatility puts you on a level that is not easily attainable.  I'm glad that I didn't have to strain too hard to hear the lyrics on this tune.  The rest of the production is first rate, and your engineering skills are superb, as always.  I'm glad to see you active again.  Like Shad said, quit your day job! :)

    All the best,

This is really good stuff.  I love the sound you got on the drums, as well as all the other wonderful things  you have going on with this song.  Quite interesting and creative.

     Great mix Daren!

I have tried to nail down what gives your music its qualities. I am not sure if it is something coming from under the music or the music itself or both. Obviously the departure from what a few may think of as a norm in both tune selection and  vocals seeming to be a few semi-tones shy of where we are trained to hear them all combine to make your stuff stand out as different. I like getting into those regions myself on occasion. The entire package evokes a feeling of bad things emotionally for me.Probably my western trained ear is to blame for it....or maybe this is what you were shooting for. I recently put out a scary sci fi track and I wasn't going for the warm fuzzy feeling there either.

You have managed to get that grunge quality happening with the best of them. A lot of people are drawn to that something that is a little different. You certainly have the ideas and creativity to bring it.
