"Trailer Park Living" - blues

This is an old C&W song my wife used to do in NYC.  She's done 2 rock blues versions w/ different bands, but this seems to be the definative version.  I'm ... adapting it for my more electronic band rm101 w/ more effects.  However, the players wanted a straight version - here it is.

On the soundcoud site in my sig.

As always, interested in your takes/suggestions.

Thanks,

Cool road house blues.. kinda what I would expect travelling the outskirts of Yuma (which I have done). Too much verb on the voice, and I find the vocal mix a bit sharp at times. I would prefer a warmer, more intimate treatment. Performance wise, she is a bit stiff for the first minute, then settles down and grows more confident as the song goes on. I would, if I were still working on this, do a retake or two to get the beginning as confident as the end.

Thanks Foxwolfen.  I'll see about doing another vocal take.  It is squat in her range so when she starts to bellow it out, it is loud.  Hard to get intimate w/ that.  She does this one live a lot (tho w/ a rock band and more, well, rocky) and decided this version was one to experiment on.  so I may need 2 more takes - close and far.  Except she doesn't really do it the same way twice.

    Thanks for the idea, tho.

Good stuff AT. Your wife can really belt it out and  those guitar tones were sweet.

twisted6s - haven't seen anything from you lately.  But I don't check her regularly.  Still doing the R&B stuff.

Thanks Starise.  When it is in her range....  Next up for her is a version of PJ's "this is love."  I may have to record that from the next room ;-)

Mmm, like that. Love those guitar tones, menacing and greasy. Agree about the reverb on the voice, a little too much perhaps. Great voice though.

I've got 2 versions going - one for the players and another version w/ big time effects on guitar and more "electronic" sounding.  Drying up the vocals a little (and filtering the bottom some more) helped on that version.  It should be good on the "dry" version.

Thanks all for the ears, even if you aren't Romans.

    Hi At,
I like the guitar tones and styling. Nice.

The singing is real nice too. I'm second guessing the reverb... I agree that there's too much and I also think it's not the right reverb patch. I think there must be a better patch that places the vocal in the context of the song and makes it seem to gel a bit more. I'm not saying I know what it is, but I bet you will when you find it.

If I were mixing I think I'd try pushing the low end on the vocals while looking for an up front growling sort of tonality.

A lot of women blues singers had a sweet smooth tone but this particular song seems to suggest a growler type delivery.

     The production is excellent overall.

     Thanks for sharing.

    best regards,
    mike

Thanks Mike.  She didn't really do growly, so I'll see what I can get from it.

Ya with the reverb, I just went to a series of plate impulses.  I'll check out some more.

    Thanks for the listen.
