It's all pretty much there, I think! Very good quality, nice Smoke on the Water references, the bass is super in the pocket, drives it. Queen vocal moments, check! Guitar solo, check! Tripled overdubbed guitars soloing, check!!! I love it! things build up, then kick ass. Although the vocals are great, the backing vocals are REALLY supportive, the overall vocal production is solid, and the lyrics are interesting, I found myself most interested during the instrumental sections, which just jam like mad. I think you have a cool rock voice, and you clearly know how to rock it. For some reason, I would like to hear the whole thing as an instrumental. To repeat, I am not complaining at all about your voice or the lyrics - just a vote for you to release an instrumental version - because it could stand alone, it's so good. You know what I mean? anyway, just my .02, you clearly know what you are doing with this. My disclaimer would be, as personal tastes go, I was not a huuuuuuge fan of 80's hair bands, which I think is this song's territory. But was VERY into Joe Walsh ---> Rush ----->Satriani ---->right up to the point of something like .38 Special. Your tune might have a little more swagger in it than I'm used to appreciating, that's all. You mention that this song has special meaning for you, which obviously refers to the lyrics, I get that totally. thanks for the share! -Tom

emeraldsoul, APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS! this tune possibly started as an instrumental... at least in basic structure, but ultimately, it has a story to tell, that requires a narrative. now, there's enough jamming stuff inbetween the lyrics, to satisify most rockers that dig instrumentals! LOL ---the 80's hair band thing, i'm not a big fan of that either, and i don't have a clue what in this sounds like 80's hair band stuff. not a clue. but no matter, i don't care what inspires anybody to listen to it, other than that they are inspired to listen!! LOL early rush, yes, early satch, yes, even /38 special ( i AM from jacksonville, after all!!).... but not 80's rock..... i'm really more inspired by early 70's classic rock than all the rest, that and some very modern stuff.

I'm not a huge '70's/'80's hair band fan either but what ever this is it is doggone impressive. To me it even has a wee touch of XTC (the vocals and timing) around and a bit after the 6:00 mark. This song has talent and skill all over it. The instrumentals are powerful sounding but don't drown out the vocals. In fact, the two blend nicely. Nice lyrics by the way and you vocals are great. Your guitar work is excellent (skillful) but the way you have used the different sounds and positioning of the various lead guitar parts is excellent. Gooood stuff!!!!

cool comments, freddy..... i never think of my stuff in terms of 'genres', most of the time those monikers just don't stick. mostly don't apply...... but i understand that people have memories that trigger, and they connect those to things to help voice ideas and opinions... one thing i learned a long time ago... when it comes to subjective opinions, is that they are all over the place. and ultimately, i go with what feels right, in terms of vibe, timing, arrangement, all that crap. i KNOW i'm not going to hit all cylinders for everybody, cuz that would require everybody being in the same headspace as me, when they listen to it. but i do value all ideas, good bad indifferent, and use them to make 'better' choices the next time i do something, which is right now.

thanks loran, for listening and commenting.. this song is a finished song, from my 'the time is magic' album... i'm looking for comments still, though, because i'm mixing my new one now, and using the mixes from my previous one as a guidepost for finding my way. my newer mixes should be even cleaner and punchier, and favor vocal mixes where it needs to.

alright bill! crank it! that's the way it was meant to be played, loud and proud!! as a matter of fact, it DOES sound better louder, i'm still learning how to mix so it sounds good quiet and loud, not there yet i spend a good amount of time mixing at low volume, and mixing in the cans, but make all final tweaks at 85db, which is pretty loud in my little studio. Beagle loved it from the intro, Gonzo, got my attention from the start! guitars, vox are great as always. drums are sitting right in the mix. bass is excellent great mix, great song!
thanks a lot beagle. glad you got attended! LOL this was a Superior Drummer 2.0 mix, one of my first when i got the program. typically, i'll do the rough arrangement, get the basic drums down, then freeze the synth and track to the temporary audio, seems to free the computer up a bit. then, once i'm through tracking, i'll go back and re-write drum parts, to more suit what i ended up playing. mostly, taking stuff out, rather than adding. then, i output each drum track to it's own channel, and mix it old school, NOT thru the superior mixer, which still sounds good, but i use 24 bit raw drum files, and eq them with my own set of eq and compression. it does sound good. i just need to build a custom kit, and need a few more expansion packs to get all the sounds i really want. Starise Great track Bat! I loved it. Reposted.
thanks a lot starise, appreciate the solid response, and love to be reposted! :) Waltenstein Studios Dark and with serious attitude. Battastic!

thank you polar bear, glad you dig it. this would be hard to pull off live, without at least 2 other guitar players!! as it is, i like the 'studio' approach versus trying to write something that can be pulled off live... i guess a solid live version of this would be just one big wide open guitar part, covering bits and pieces of all the different recorded parts.

Waltenstein Studios I just bought your album download from cdbaby. I'll be busy rocking out for a while...
damn waltenstein, that is so cool you picked up a download. you know, some folks are perfectly happy with a download ( i hope the encoding is good enough, if not, let me know, i'll send you my own ripped 320kbps mp3's done in WAVELAB)..... but others like a CD, and the 16 bit files DO sound better, no doubt about it...... but i really appreciate it. Waltenstein Studios Just looked again at your cdbaby page, and it says the album was released in 2011. Also, all the songs' metadata says 2011. Is that right? I thought you were working on these just recently?
this song ("Walked Away") is from my second album release, called "The Time is Magic". that came out in 2011. i am not working on these songs again, but i AM using them as 'guideposts', looking for feedback on the mixes and mostly the 'translations', as i am in the middle of final mixing 6 of the 10 new songs i have going on, for my 3rd album release, which i hope to have in a couple of months. now, i have my FIRST album, entitled "Trouble", which was on Planet Records, and that company has since folded, and it is out of print. i am starting to post my original mixes of that, in bits and pieces, because i plan on re-tracking, re-mixing, and re-releasing THAT album, and you may have tripped across one of those postings before, where i mentioned 're-mixing' and re-working, and THAT is going to happen right after i finish this 3rd new album. i've only posted about half of 'the time is magic' here, but i have posted a few of these. i find it extremely helpful, getting feedback on these previous mixes, as i'm in the middle of doing new mixes, comments can help me focus on things i haven't focused on. by the way, i have a free download (for anyone that buys the album in any format), that i'll be sending you shortly check your pm

Always pleasure to see a Bat tune appear here even if it's origins are a little aged. For me it could do with a tad more bottom end weight, I am listening on my Adam A7x's and it seems a little light on them and I know how low they can go even without a sub.

When I listen to you play, I want to pick up my guitar and hit the wah-wah pedal hard. Unfortunately, my ankles won't let me get the kind of mojo that you have going for you, but it's fun trying. I tend to agree with Wookie about the bottom end, but the rest is masterful.

I've long admired your guitar tones, and this tune perfectly illustrates why. Great rockin' song. Love the lead guitar, a bit of self indulgent excess that I can relate to. Let me grab my guitar, it's time to rock!
