"Walked Away" - mighty vintage Mark2b tones w/modern strat
"Walked Away" - mighty vintage Mark2b tones w/modern strat ((( link removed ))) a finished tune with a bunch of cool guitars and solos on a custom USACG strat.... carvin lb70 bass, ADK Hamburg on vox, Superior Drums, Taylor acoustic guitars, and the (now vintage) mesa mark2b this one was fun to mix, i got seriously into MULTI BUS setups for this mix... every single track has volume and pan automation, quite a few even have FX automation.... i did a lot of experimenting with bus FX, used the L1 quite a bit, multiple instances.... a lot of EQ carving with the standard Sonitus Eq, used Waves Tap on the vox.... i gotta look at some screenshots to remember what all i did any comments are welcome

Walked away contains everything from the old school rock world very nice played guitars all over. Funny backtrack-things too, and the tune gave me some good old Slade-vibs. Never heard of the Bratsbrew though but I'm new here. The mix however sounds real good. Rock on

This is pretty amazing. Definitely .38 special/Molly Hatchet in places, but in other places, more other classic and new rock, your vocals have really come along. And the bass in this is awesome. And you have a STRONG Queen thing going there on the bridge.
Sittin downtown in a railway station one toke over the line.

Bat, you are consistently one of the better singer, songwriter, musician, and producer here. I love the wah-wah guitar that could have been ripped from Electric Ladyland. Your style is familiar but unique, making you one of a kind. Truly fantastic!

eko thanks man, glad you liked it... this tune is supposed to be kinda loose and free.... it's supposed to swagger... rather than be spot on with performance. the performance is intentionally loose. i channeled my inner keith. heheh, or as best as i can do it. and of course, a few shots of rye did not hurt at all. no, not at all. if you want to check out more, here's a link: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/batsbrew

the band thanks man! 38 special, haven't heard that name dropped in a long time... i grew up in Jax florida, knew all those guys once upon a time...... queen would have been a stronger influence then the southern rock thing, even tho i dig it. the bass: i have to admit, was my favorite part of tracking; over all of the solos, the singing, all the rest, i enjoyed playing the bass part the most.

alkie thanks man........ i really wanted to rock this tune, not get it dialed in like a pop tune... the arrangement is a bit long, as a result of wanting to build things up a certain way... but i wrote it to work as a 2nd song on the album, an instrumental (of sorts) leads it in, and it works at this length for an album, maybe not a single, but hell, i just don't write with that intention any more. i've often thought about limiting myself to exactly 3:00. LOL i think that is the limit for someone who gets easily bored, or as ADD. heheh like me.......

lynn thanks lynn, really kind words, i appreciate it. the wah... i really like my Budda Wah, i've had a bunch of crybabies, but this one is voiced more the way i like, i guess....... i learned to play wah, aping jimi off of electric ladyland, so it's funny you say that... my favorite tune to 'try' to play by jimi: still raining, still dreaming

A very cool, epic song. I particularly enjoyed how you worked in references to other songs (Smoke On The Water, etc.) and they fit in very naturally. Great job all around.

Oh yea, this is the side of you that makes me say oh hell yea. Ear candy. Still a bit of prog in this. A bit of Queen inflence in the harmonies? I even likes the prog elements. Epic for sure.

dcumpian thanks dan..... appreciate the comment.... i guess it's GOOD... that folks hear different things in my tunes.. and that it's all over the map. i'd say, i almost never get multiple comments about the same 'heard influences', except for one... YES heheh which was never an influence, but certainly i heard a lot of it growing up.... good ole ted was a wildman back in the day, and i guess some of the vox? or some of the solos? might be the thing that triggers your memory...? ted was never an influence ever, but man, it's rock and roll, almost everything has already been done. i'm gonna stub my toe on just about everything sooner or later! thanks again

oh grant appreciate the comments... yes, a bit prog. that's kinda my thing, trying to blend some modern progressive into my classic rock influence. queen, yes.... there is quite a bit of influence there, only in arrangements and song structure--NOT performance!! heheh

munmun thanks for listening! well, a real drummer performed the sounds that were turned into samples... and a real kit was played in a real studio... but i programmed in what the samples would do.. via Toontracks Superior Drummer. i tweak the midi data quite a bit. there's not much that is 'stock', but the sounds are fun to work with. i usually de-tune the samples just a touch, all the way across the kit...

by the way, i still use mics for guitar tones almost all the time... it just so happens, that on this particular song, i used ONLY the Palmer PDI-09 for all of the electrics. i wanted a super dry, in your face tone... and any room effects, were added in the mix. other songs on the album feature either all mics, or combinations of the palmer and mic/room mic, which is my favorite way to use it: palmer for main signal, room mic/distance mic on the amp. that's one of the reasons i posted this particular one, to let anyone who is interested in hearing one of these devices used in an actual recording, check out what it can sound like.
