"Wild West Crazy Roundup" funny old western themed soundtrack...something different 4 me!
So, myself and my roommate Ramblin Rod Hayek the country western singer decided to make a light-hearted take on the old western soundtracks...it's still a work in progress tonight we are adding a real cowbell and triangle parts along with some more stuff to the mix...what do you think of what we have so far? I think it will be a great attribute to my music library...SoundTraxx! Input appreciated - Shawn Lee Farrell http://soundcloud.com/sha...stern-crazy-roundup-by

Sounds like it was cut back in the day, hope that is what you were shooting for. I like it, you could put a cowboy yodel in the middle somewhere! Something like Cattlecall if you are familiar with that. Monty

Very old school. I don't really know what to say, Shawn. Didn't fire my rocket. Might be fun to watch at a coffehouse or bar.

I think the dichotomy here is some things are clashing right off the bat to me. The vocals (YEAAAAHHHHH!) sound like they are in a cavern scene from an old movie. The drums sound kinda like they are in a small room or old bar room (short slapback going on) and the guitars are dry as hell and right in yer face like you just went DI on them. and you have some drastic panning going on. Keep in mind, back in this era most recordings were done with 1 mic, so put them all in a similar sonic space. also, most mediums for that stuff (am radio or TV) were mono, so the panning is odd sounding for that piece. Keep it more in the middle (like it was done with 1 mic). Just my 2 cents for what it's worth!

Hey Shawn, I am pretty sure you're going for "raw", but I'm sorry to say that guitar really needs to be tuned better. I love the idea though, and other than the tuning, the guitar performance works pretty well for what you're going for. I agree with ChuckC about the drums, which could use a bit more dynamics. The vocals are nifty.

Shawn, I kinda like the low tech vibe you were going for, and this piece is quite different from your usual entries. However, it's kinda repetitive, and the parts aren't glued together and sound disparate. I'll await until you tweak it and add a few more parts to come to a definitive conclusion.

Well Shawn, I'm kind of on the thoughts with Warren, in fact maybe even a bit further out there, as I just couldn't finish listening to the song. I think also Walt was right about the guitar tuning and Chuck C about the drums. Maybe you need to rethink this one, but I wouldn't add it to your library just yet. As for fun it might make a good comedy at a bar somewhere in the middle of Texas where everyone is drunk that night and falling off their barstools. Hope to hear a different updated version of this one down the road. Peace and Blessings, John

Well, Ramblin Rod's guitar always seems to be out tune, I would call that his TradeMark...and this started as a fun project of Rod's Idea. However, all your comments will come in handy as we try to polish this track enough to be able to be used in my music library SoundTraxx as an old-school country western movie soundtrack. I've been pretty busy doing my day job of PC Repair & Multimedia Design lately so we haven't made any more progress from what you have heard. We shall get back at it soon and post an update THANK YOU ALL! AND TO PROVE THAT I'M QUALIFIED TO PRODUCE THIS COUNTRY TRACK HERE IS A SHOT OF ME AS A COWBOY ON MY HORSEY! -Shawn
