Like most of your mixes it sounds fine here, perhaps a little louder on the vocal but that is probably a subjective pers-p-e-ctive.

Loving this Bats..excellent moody intro, and that bassline is killer, good touch to have a guitar riff back it up later. Builds nicely, without fuss, cool dynamics too with that dreamy breakdown. Thumbs up from me sir!

you know, i'm kinda on the fence about the re-mix, as far as the vocal levels go..... i think they are plenty loud enough..... the idea i have, is to draw the listener in more personally, and not have the vocal sitting on top like it's a big cherry on top of the ice cream that you can't eat around. LOL i mean, it's a common thing i hear, about wanting the vox hotter, but then a lot of the pop and rock songs that bug me the most, are the ones that have the vox so hot that the music becomes secondary to serving the vocal, which to me, is not rock and roll. i'll definitly focus on the vox more, and probably have a few sections that stand out, but riding that vox level pretty aggressively towards 'the least amount that serves the song' thanks for listening and commenting wookie evadianepug I've only listened to this one about 1000 times. The minute it started playing I pictured the top of lookout mountain. This tune pushed the pedal when I needed it. That whole CD is insane!
your a fan, warren, i'm glad you are. choinga I agree man - BRING THOSE VOCALS OUT!!! :) Great mix and great pickin'...love the layers! Well done! thanks for listening, choinga.... like i mentioned to wookie, i think the vox are fine.... maybe you could give me a link to a song where you think the vocal levels are just perfect, then i'd have a measure of something tangible to work with....

thegaltieribrothers Great mix, love the drums - good job!
glad you dig it man, thanks. the drums, au natural, are by Brent Dacus, out of the dallas ft worth area. he's good. jamesg1213 Loving this Bats..excellent moody intro, and that bassline is killer, good touch to have a guitar riff back it up later. thanks jamesg, if i had to put into words what i was trying to go for with the arrangment on this one, it'd be almost word for word what you said.... that bassline, it was a bit tricky at first, because i naturally play back beat, but this song really needed a mid or front beat riff to push the song..... when i got the drum parts back from brent, i made the decision to play just in front of his beat, which was already forward moving, and i had to figure out how to make the bass line swing, while at the same time keep up the velocity.... i had several sessions to go thru, before i found the pocket i wanted, and then it just worked! thanks again....

yes, performed by brent dacus, i sent him (and his engineer) my demos that were done with drum machine... he found the perfect pocket on ALL the tunes, by being able to play a groove that could either be back beat, swing, or driving, just based on what he felt i was going for..... when i got his finished drum tracks (12-15 individual tracks) i started recording from scratch, and just played to his groove.... it turned out really well, his reading of my demos were just spot on! thanks for listening

Its all very very good bat. Very impressed with your playing and the drummers. The bass is awesome as well. I hear a bit of boxiness in the mids on this tune. I compared it to your "The Strip" song which doesn't seem to have the 800K thru 1.5K I hear on "Yesterday". That is really nit pickin' though. Love your music.

makke, thanks for listening, and the comment about the arrangement- that's what i worked on the hardest, trying to find some way to convey it all without falling into 'the obvious' i like blending the acoustics and electrics, i should probably focus on that more

Wow great number! The guitar work is excellent and I love that bass line. The arrangement really allows the rhythm to carry along the song, and that is tops in my book. The vocals/harmony are excellent and remind me of Yes. In fact the guitar accents, and that driving rhythm along with the vocals remind me of Yes. Excellent stuff!!

Not much to add other than "+1". Great tune, nice arrangement, good mix. And yeah, the drums are completely in the pocket - he seems to play the "right" thing all the way through. And the guitars sound great as usual. For some reason I love that little phasy part around 3:47 where the guitar practically drops out - it's so "live".

good ears, rimshot, that is a frequency issue i always had with this song. this was mixed on a roland VS 1880, versus the strip tune, which was mixed in Sonar. also, i used a sm57 to record that guitar part in yesterday- i used a ADK Hamburg condenser to record the stip tracks, mixed in with a direct from a Palmer PDI-09. i can easily conform that guitar part, but instead, i think i'll just re-track it, and make the track more unique. thanks for listening

thanks for the comments freddy... i still don't get the "Yes" thing, but i'll take it because those guys were (are?) so good.... i like their early stuff, up to DRAMA... to me, my acoustic stuff is probably more in line with CSN&Y, or Dan Fogelburg, or Page

LOL

stevec Happy accidents are some of my favorite moments. YOU KNOW.. i actively try to cultivate those 'moments'.. a lot of times, i'll set up a session with the idea that certain things might come together if i can get into it enough..... for example, i'll set my guitar cabs up high at waist level, just to lean into them to get certain things happening, feedback, overtones, whatever, but i do not know in advance, how i'll approach it until the moment comes....

Hi! This sounds in my ears very well produced and played. One minor niggle to me is be that the intro is a bit long, but I'm somewhat impatient so I'm sure most think that the intro length is perfect. The intro somehow feels like it's building tension or something like that so maybe it's good length anyway.

thanks kakku :) you know, i'm trying to write songs that fit into a 'classic rock' kind of vibe, not at all concerned with commercial appeal, or fitting in with common popular rock arrangements... i want my tunes to be a bit of a journey or a quick stop on a longer journey...... i know quite a bit about how to arrange songs to fit very specific formats.. and i actively try to avoid them. if that makes sense.....
