"You Cool" & "Sad Guitar" Got the right links now
Sorry for the bad links before You Cool-Simple song with simple guitar, SadGuitar-Added midi tracks and guitar lead to a backing track, sounds cool, just need to polish the guitar notes and timing. Trying to learn to get vol level balanced for all tracks, ie bring down track vols as a lead track starts. Would like feedback on the vol mix, you can't hurt my feelings. thanks all PS Most of the music on this forum is top grade, professional sounding stuff, its my inspiration. By the way I'm not a lead guitar player, just a wanna be, I do this cause its so much fun. The few songs I've made I then remove the lead and let brother Doug do his magic. Will post again when he's finished. https://soundcloud.com/capg/sadguitar https://soundcloud.com/capg/you-cool

Yea - it's sad - but it ain't bad. I actually think the lead guitar is pretty cool - fills up the entire spectrum. I like it CaptG.

The lead sort of overpowers everything else. If that's your intent, then you succeeded. I would bring the drums and bass up to match, then narrow the lead a bit and add some delay/echo. Just my opinion, and you know what they say... Regards, Dan

Hey CaptG. I gave a listen to "Too Cool" and it is indeed cool. You said the lead is simple but it is good. The other instrumental parts (e.g., guitar and synth) complement the lead nicely and carry the song along. The only suggestion that I might have is bring these complementary parts forward a bit more. This might give it a bit more of a full sound. Nice job!!!!

Other than my musical talent, my next shortfall has been a proper mix. I do it by ear but my brother encourages me to try using the console but will not know exactly what he's talking about until he comes over and demonstrates. What has frustrated me is often the mix will sound different on the numerous devices I play it back on riding in the car, motorcycle or a little mp3 player. I'll think a portion comes thru too strong or whatever, go back to my computer and adjust, almost trial and error stuff-over and over. The other detail I wonder about is my audio interface goes into a 8 band graphic equalizer before the amplifier, which enhances the sound to my liking, but I realize the raw mp3 song does not sound like my system on any other device. I sometimes try bypass of the EQ but does not seem to matter on my judgment of the mix, but I may be wrong. But I greatly appreciate your comments, I'm already back at the drawing board. captg

I like the sound of your guitar but the backing and rest of the instruments need to sit better in the mix . Cool & Sad - Yes - James

Thanks, not sure exactly what you mean, but from yours and other comments I assumed I needed to tone the lead down and bring the backing up some which I tried with this version. (SadGuitar) I have a hell of a speaker setup 4 feet from my chair, with 15', 5-6", 2-8", 2-horns and unknown tweeters on each side and wonder if I should be using headphones for mixing work? (maybe that's why I end up with my hair looking like a Mohawk style after a loud recording session) Whats the best mixing listening point-monitors or headphones? Thanks all captg https://soundcloud.com/capg/sadguitar

Both. You should listen to your mix on as many different systems as you can to make sure it translates well. Every system will highlight a different problem. It can be frustrating as hell until you understand what's happening and can anticipate it while you mix. Regards, Dan
