I though I heard a *machine gun* at 1:12 and it made me chuckle. Awesome guitar picking. The technique just pushes the vibe harder instead of replacing it. Yikes.

Sounds great. It reminds me of Zappa a little with some DLR era Steve Vai thrown in. I really enjoyed the song.

As always, your productions raise the bar for me. This song rocks hard, and the lyrics are terrific. Congratulations on a excellent recording.

mikethanks for listening... and the nice comment... trying to keep the 'technique' always serving the song, is always a goal of mine, sometimes i nail it, and sometimes it just sounds like musical diarreah. LOL..... yes, the machine gun sound was, of course, all guitar noises..... i was channeling my inner jimi hendrix ala 'machine gun' with the gypsys all of those 'war' noises are guitar... the choppers, the sirens, the bombs and guns, all that crap. i had a seperate buss setup, called "WAR" LOL again..... and had all that noise panned across the field, i think there were about 10 tracks in all...... and i ran it all thru a limiter, to get it to sit right in the mix, even tho it is mixed low, in relation to the music tracks.... HPF about 120hz, and maybe i boosted the 1k region a bit, knowing i was going to be mixing it lower in the mix. it's not exactly "Musique Concrete", but my approximation of it i guess between brian may on 'stormtrooper in stilettos' and 'machine gun', i'm wearing my influences on my sleeve.

chandler thanks man, i dig zappa with vai.... saw them in '81, forget where, east coast i guess...... speedtom glad you liked it speed, i was always an extreme fan, and even tho it wasn't a concious influence, i can hear where you would find a similarity.... it's in the drum track.. it swings a lot, even while driving straight, and extreme was really good at that. serious wow, i appreciate the enthusiasm in the tune, thanks!

lynn thanks for listening, lynn... you know, i had this riff.. the opening riff, which i guess would be A section (or would it be the C section? crap, i don't know!) that opening riff, i originally came up with that as my AC/DC riff, and it was much slower. imagine, playing that riff at half speed. with a heavy footed drummer nailing the downbeat. THAT was the original version!! LOL

theBand19 thanks for mentioning the bass... that's actually my favorite part of the song...... the bass is a really aggressive line, and you have to stay on it all the time, it's hard to play backbeat throughout, i have to play with the guitar part on the verses and opening riff, but try to go a little backbeat on the bridge and solo section.... it took me a while, to realize the bass line, i went thru several 'writing sessions' where i was trying all kinds of different approaches..... and none of them felt right to me, until i did the one you hear on the song.

" theBand19thanks for mentioning the bass..." You never fail to disappoint... And I'm a bass player from back in the day, so I always listen carefully to the bass and appreciate a good performance. I believe it's one of (if not the?) most important instruments on the canvas... They're all important? I just really appreciate a good performance on the bass. Listen to Frank's music (Notnat) He always has good bass too. I try... But I'm a piker.

notnatthanks man. warrenleeappreciate it, glad you like this one. the band19yes, the bass has been almost more important to me than guitar, since i heard my first beatles tune ("she loves you") markno999thanks for the comments... Vai, yeah, there could be a little something in there similar.... i had developed a lot of my idiosynchracies in guitar playing, before I knew about Vai (zappa, alcatrazz, roth)... i've got some old recordings from the early 80's that attest to early wildness... but folks still reference this from time to time... he's probably the most 'known' instrumental electric guitarist, after Satch.... so it's inevitable to hear comparisons with music that has those kinds of guitar breaks... wookiethanks for smiling! and not stickin' your fingers in your wooly ears....

You might be right...but today it hit me why it reminds me of Extreme: I had your verse in my head "...and if you think about it" - and after that, just by magic, Extreme's chorus of "it's monster" just followed it! There must be some link between headin for the weeds and it's a monster, although I cannot grap it just yet

doncolgathanks man, i appreciate that speedtomit's a monster......i remember that song! that was off of pornograffiti.man, what a killer album. the song on that one, that just slays me, is " Decadence Dance" that, and 'get the funk out'. yea, i can see how you would hear a similarity, it's a timing thing.... the way the chords move in syncopation, against the straight time in both songs.... i'm playing the chords in FRONT of the beat, to drive the song... which makes the drums sound like they are swinging in the BACK BEAT, even tho they are playing straight time. i figured out a long time ago, how to imply a swing, by playing ahead, or sometimes, way behind, a straight time drum groove... and with samples, or midi programs like superior drummer, it's a good skill to have. LOL thanks for commenting again....
