really bad noise

hi everyone, now this is scary, this is something new, last couple weeks or so.
during playback I have a track soloed with the dim solo function engaged with a plugin or two, when I try and change a parameter sonar stops and I hear a horrible noise, kind of like a ground noise like when one is plugging in a guitar. what I do then is save the project, close, then reopen.
I am not running many tracks, very few plugins. what happened just now is, a soloed vox track with a couple compressors open and i'm comparing them. I don't know yet if this happens with a specific plugin, I will now start paying attention what i'm doing to see if it's something specific.
has anyone had this before? or, does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
thanks so mu

    we could use more details.
which version of sonar are you running?
exactly which plugins are you running?
which parameters are you trying to change that causes the noise?
what soundcard are you using and what driver mode is it in?

give us as many details as you can and we'll try to help.

    Possibly. Check out http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3245568

I now think this might be related to the Sonitus reverb (which I use on vocals in all my recent projects), but it may be a problem with the FX bin in general. I don't think it is Ozone any more.

When it happens, try disabling all FX using the FX bypass button in the control bar.

    Cheers, Peter.

thank you all for helping me. i will now address your questions. first, i believe all my computer specs are part of my profile so i will not list them here.
    1. sonar platinum i have loaded both 32 and 64 bit
    2. the plugins i normally use are the ones that come with sonar, the only softsynth that runs all the time is superior drummer.
    3. i just installed a new interface because everything i've been using for the past year or so have been too complicated. all i ever need id 2 in 2 out, so what i have is focusrite 2i2. i have not installed any of the 100+ plugins it came with. i have no use for 20 compressors etc.
    4. parameters. i haven't noticed what i'm doing to cause the noise, however, i will start paying more attention next time it happens and pass it along.
    5. the soundcard is in #3 and again, i'm running both 32 and 64 bit and it's ASIO. my last interface was the roland quad capture (which is for sale) and the drivers were not behaving so a tech at sweetwater downloaded ASIO4ALL which didn't improve anything. now i'm using the drivers that came with the focusrite.
ok that's all i have so far, i'm going to start working now and see what i see, i will also check out the links that PeterMc posted.
again, thanks so much for all your help and please, if anyone has anymore thoughts or ideas send them on.

    Hi,
it could be a routing problem of the focusrite mix control.
If you have not already tried, route only the  mix channel 1 (I & r) of the mix control
to the output that is connected to your audio monitors  (monitor output 1 and 2 ?).
disable all other outputs in the mix control.
If you hear sound trough your monitors,
enable one aftervthe other of the disabled channels and try if the noises start again,
so you will  find  out, which channel is the cause of that noises.

Make sure that the  Sonar master channel is  routed to mix 1 (l & r ).

    Good luck

    did you uninstall ASIO4ALL ?
it sounds like a tell tale sign of a bad oscillating loop (that ASIO4ALL used to do to me)
look for it, kill it, uninstall it.

+1000. Don't just delete it, uninstall it. Although ASIO4ALL works for some people in some setups, it can interfere with other drivers.

If the suggestions above don´t help :
Are you using an usb 3 port ?
Change to the usb 2 port of your notebook.

thanks everyone, to answer you all, i got rid of ASIO$ALL so it's not in the computer. as far as the scarlett routing is concerned, thankfully the 2i2 has none of that, last year i had the 6i6 and had nothing but problems with the routing crap, it drove me nuts.
i have, however, a new topic concerning the focusrite which i'll start later.
    crap never ends

Re: really bad noise 2016/07/02 11:56:40 (permalink)
a quick update on chasing whatever this noise is, it seems that it has nothing to do with any plugins, what i discovered last night was, while working on a drum track when i make any kind of change then hit the spacebar to play the track that's when the noise happens. i trying to figure out if the drum software (toontrack EZdrummer and superior drummer) have anything to do with it. toontrack is more softsynth then a plugin, it has it's own plugins.
what i'm going to do is pay attention to what i did to trigger the noise.
meanwhile, i've been using sonar's clean audio file and run a defrag/optimize in windows 10. in other words tune up the computer everyday. also, yesterday i contacted focusrite and downloaded a software update on the scarlett 2i2 i'm using.
that's what i have so far, and again, any suggestions will be appreciated. i'm reading and doing what everyone has suggested so far.
thanks again for all your time.

Does it also happen if you click transport play in the gui, versus space bar?

yes, i have disabled the computer sound. it happened once yesterday and i noticed that i had a track armed to record and inadvertently hit the spacebar instead of the record button in the transport.
i'm going to keep tracking this down
    thanks everyone

What's the nature of the noise? Hiss? A high-pitched whine? Aliasing?

the best way to describe the noise is, you know when you're plugging in your guitar when the amp is running (off standby) and one gets that noise until the TS jack finally gets into the jack in the guitar. that's it.
what i've been doing is really paying attention to what i'm doing and what all the parameters are right before it happens. like the other day, i had a track armed to record and i inadvertently hit the space bar, and no, i have not tried to replicate it, maybe i should.
i would appreciate any ideas or thoughts you may have, and thank you for responding.
