recorded track getting doubled

Okay so I record a track, say a bass line, lets call that track 1. When I go to record track 2 while listening to track 1 it records track 1 in with track 2 so when I play it back i'm hearing two track 1's and one track 2.

The only way I've been able to stop track 1 recording is if I don't listen to it while recording track 2.

Note: I'm only playing track 1 in my headphones when recording track 2.
         Currently using Sonar X1 LE

         Frustrated

Any help is appreciated.

Asking a question like this it would be very good to add the system and soundcard specs.

In this case I assume you're using the integrated soundchip or Sounblaster soundcard and you have "What you hear" or "Stereo mix" setting on.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Well the system is a dual core 2.1ghz celeron t3500 processor.

    2gb ddr3 ram.

    32 bit os (windows 7)

Soundcard is intel High def audio hdmi.

But im using the Roland Quad-Capture

Direct monitor ive got set to mono if that helps.

Roland Quad Capture is your "actual" soundcard. Make sure the integrated chip is not selected in any dropdown window in the Preferences dialogue.

If the Quad Capture software has settings like "Stereo Mix" or "What u hear", don't use them.

Anyway, it's not a SONAR setting that causes the unwanted copying of a recorded track, it's about soundcards routing.
