recording guitar question

Hi, I have some free time to mess around with recording after not messing around for a while. I am using MC4, I have the Fast Track pro interface and windows 8.  I have recorded some midi tracks with my audio controller keyboard and it records great. now I want to add some guitars.
I am plugged directly into my fast track pro audio interface. I  insert an audio track and I hear the guitar great. I set the audio track to R so I can record and nothing records.
although I I hear the guitar it is not registering at all on my meter no matter what I do.  It used to be that I would strum the guitar and it would be at 0 or close to 6. depending on where I adjust the volume on the interface.
what am I missing to make  the meter register? volumes are up and midi records great.
any help would be appreciated. thanks

You should try to use the ASIO drivers.

Be sure you select the Fast Track as the input for the new audio track.

As a side note, I seem to recall having some interface to computer comm issues from time to time back in the day and it just happened the other day too on a re-boot.... so my solution to reestablish the communication from interface & computer is a total reboot of both at the same time.

I am not saying this is your problem since you are running a different M-Audio product but if you are running the 64bit drivers in Windows 8, there was a problem confirmed with the Fast Track Ultra, the most recent ASIO drivers and SONAR. See http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2879368
