recording guitar with a microphone and two monitors vs mic and amp
iv been recording with a mic , using a pedal and amp..but the pedal is giving me problems..can i record using a mic, recording from my two monitors through my computer. the effects on line6 gear r good so i woulnt mind using them. i know i can do it just want to know if i can get professional results using two monitors vs one amp..how far inbetween the two monitors should i place the mic..i definetly dont want to record midi..any info would be good, plus im using a acoustic electric

What amp ? Do want to preserve it's sound ? Which line6 gear ? Why not just route the line6 (does it have a line out ?) directly into your computer ? I can't imagine recording the output of your monitors would produce anything useful. You'll get the sound of your room added and more weirdness from two monitors going into a single mic.

i have line 6 guitarport i use as a soundcard somtimes and it has gearbox which has good guitar tones, and i use it through my computer. coulnt i just use one monitor or have it on mono or somthing. anyway ill just do what i normaly do and record with a guitar amp and a mic to my computer. or record through midi. i mainly produce dance music but would like to finish some rock tracks..

if you want to make decent recordings of rock guitar,
then get a decent mic, a decent amp, put it in a good sounding room, and do it right.
it's just not going to sound the same as doing it with a guitar port.
a guitar amp sounds NOTHING like a monitor playing back guitar sounds.
the mic will hear the difference,
and it should be obvious.
that's not to say you can't experiment with all kinds of tones using that methodology,
but that's not really what you are asking about.

ya thanks thats what i thought but wanted to know forsure.. my guitar pedal is working now so ill keep recording with an amp..

You could always experiment and let your ears guide you.

At the end of the day - if you have a good sounding source and a good mic / technique. What does it matter? Record it and experiment around with it.

I've been recording with a Toneport, then Podfarm, into Sonar for years. If I try to mic my monitors I get feedback. Sorry, Bat, not everyone has an environment suitable to micing an amp. Vaux, your Gearbox has lots of great tones if you tweak the presets. Just gotta play with them.
