recording my acoutic guitar but the sound is not very loud

hello

i am using a samson mic on a stand and placing it in front of my guitar amp to record onto MC5.

My mic goes into my sound card jack at the back of the computer.

When i play my recording back on MC5,  the guitar sounds very distant, and i can only make it louder on playback by highering the
gain in MC5, but this creates more hiss..

am i doing something wrong? i want to record  a loud guitar sound..

thanks

Jason

the onboard soundcard is not going to give you good results, remember.  is this the same mic you talked about before too?  it's not going to be great either.

using the soundcard in the computer will not give good results since they do not have preamps built in.

A dedicated audio interface (depending on the model) will generally have nice pre's built in.

And what is the mic model number that you are using?

How high is the recording level?
If it's too low, like -46 or something equally faint, you can A. turn up the amplifier or 2. raise the recording level. I don't know how that is done with a USB mic. Check the manual.

Hissing can be a lot of things and if you get a condensor mic you'll still get some if you don't have the mic and preamp setup correctly, but gernerally speaking the hiss should be mostly eliminated from a good recording soundcard and mic.

yeah that's that same mic we were looking at before - it's not the best mic for recording, IMO.  I know you said you didn't have a lot of money, but I really think you'll be happier with the results if you get something like we were discussing in the other thread.
