refurbished computer

What say you guys on this box?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220051

Comes with Vista but I'd replace with Win7.
Any gotchas?

Not sure about available slots for audio card. Is there one?

Thanks

On paper, it's got nice specs and a nice price.  Unless someone on the forum has actually tried it, it's either going to work or it's not.  I'd make sure you can return it to NewEgg if it doesn't work for you, just in case.

timidi - I got pretty enthusiastic about the price on that. But it's that darn "refurbished" thing that makes me nervous. I know that computer sellers don't provide the info, but I'd want to know the history on the particular PC.

    Refurbished can mean several things.

It could have burned up and was a warrantee return. They put new parts in it... nobody fixes boards these days...it's always a swap the board for a new one.

It could also be someone did not like the computer and simply returned it in totally working condition. They can not sell it as new, so they wipe the drives and sell it as a refurbished unit at a lower cost.

As long as you can return it.... why not?

as long as it has the specs you want and the expansion slots that you need.... go for it.

I buy refurbs all the time. Just make sure to thoroughly check it out before the "warranty" period is up.
Asus makes a really good machine, but definitely read all the user reviews you can before you make your decision. Don''t fall in love with the price. But you can get a lot more bang for your buck with a refurb....:))
    Good luck!!

I'm planning on getting a desktop PC for my wife for about $300-$400 (I already have a monitor) and although it'll be mostly for general non-DAW usage, I'd like the hardware to be compatible incase I decide to install Sonar on it (in the future).

Is it better to get a bare bones kit rather than a refurbished? Would you get more "bang for the buck" on a refurbished rather than a bare bones?
