remove EQ from Pro Channel

Does anyone know if it's possible (registry hack or anything?) to remove the EQ section from Pro Channel?

I like being able to use my own VST plugins in the PC - and I've got an EQ (DMG Audio EQuilibrium) that means I really won't be using the PC EQ - and I'd like to make som eroom in the PC.

Has anyone tried this? (removing the EQ that is...)

Thanks.

- Asus P8z77-V mobo - using the integrated Intel graphic card (HD4000)
- MOTU Ultralite AVB audio interface
I usually use ASIO set at 64 or 128 samples
er - that's it I think...

I'm wanting the same thing. I only use the ProChannel for the FX bin. Not being able to remove the EQ begs the question as to whether it really is True ByPass if not boosted or cut at any frequency.

I'd also like a way to remove it. Anyone find a way?

So, removing the EQ would CRASH the DAW? Wha? I realize this will come off sounding like a total Smart-a$$, but I want ask if this can be done: "Right-click on the EQ and select :Replace EQ with FX bin"?

I don't want to sound like a jerk, I really don't, but the impression I got from the other forum thread regarding the DAW crash if the EQ were removed tells me that Cakewalk worked themselves into a complex corner with no easy way out.

Try it, I do not believe you will be presented with an option to replace the EQ. I imagine this goes back to prior versions that had the Sonitus EQ built into each track. Could not remove it either. There is no requirement to use the EQ and when minimized it does not take up much real estate.

No, you can't get rid of it.

You can of course minimise it.

I just have to make it Inactive, hoping that does the trick. I like that EQ a LOT, but the tiny interface it has leaves a lot to be desired, so I don't use it. If Cakewalk provided a pop-out display bring it closer to the screen, now THAT would sell me on it more. One key-stroke (Ctrl+P?) to pop it out and bring it closer (4x Zoom), then Shift+P to pop it back into the PC.

This would help "touch" features for the PC as well.

I had a strange bug in X1 that came out of nowhere.  If I inserted a new track, the PC was blank, EQ and all.  I saved this blank PC as a PC Preset, and could load it in to any track.

    Now, three things:

    1) I didn't want this blank PC, it just appeared, and never left.

    2) It may just be a graphic error, except it offered me Quad EQ as an option to insert, which it didn't before.

    3)  I've not tried using the Preset in X2.

Personally, I like the PC EQ.  It was originally put in X1 to emulate a hardware EQ in a large format console, AFAIK, so the lack of large GUI never worried me.  IIRC, many of the desk EQs I've seen over the years didn't even have numbers on some of the knobs, let alone graphs.  The engineer just used his ears and experience.

If I want a graph, etc., I use another EQ, but for most work, I use the Quad Curve.

If I didn't already have the Waves SSL4000 bundle, I'd be ok using the PC EQ. But, I love the SSL4000, the PuigTec and the API bundles a lot, so I use those for character. The SSL4000 from Waves has a larger interface, so I like using it. That leaves surgical EQ's. I love my old Algorithmix Red for surgical, but it's 32-bit only. Until they get their heads on the 64-bit version, even though it's Linear-Phase, I use DMG Audio's EQ. The large interface makes them very inviting and truly flexible.

I'm not one to hold on to the vintage-ness of the DAW, albeit, Cakewalk's X1 interface and color-scheme is very attractive.

It's OK to remove ProChannel EQ but it must NOT be done in the Console View or SONAR (X2) will crash. This extra feature is available in Duckbar for those who want more freedom to tweak SONAR. :)

Thanks a lot for the links and comments. I'm still s little nervous about running duckbar - so I guess I'll have to work around the (unused) eq.

Unless I decide to go back to the fx bins and forget about PC completely...
