removing missing devices from project
Now that I got rid of my old midi device, every time I go in a project that used it, it says "missing device" as soon as I load the project. I can just hit enter and be done with it, but how do I remove that old device I no longer have so I no longer get that message? Thanks.

Me thinks this has been discussed - the device reference is likely stored with the project. You'll just have to live with it until all of your projects get opened with the new device (or the next one depending on how many projects you have!) Brian

Yep. You'd think that somebody in programming would have had the intelligence foresight to anticipate such an event and maybe show a popup asking something like, "Here's a list of current devices- replace missing device with? "

Brian that's kinda silly... True - except for the guy who wants a reminder that his devices are not turned on. Tomatoes - Tomatoes. Everything is silly with Cakewalk this week.

What the users can do is change any reference to a device by pointing the offending absent device to an existing device or synth on the track level. If its a buss that outs to a main out one no longer has either delete that buss or point it to a current main out. Then save the project. It should then open without any prompts.

Brian I threw that in because I think some get the silent buss prompt. It is not for MIDI but while on the subject I thought why not.

Delete aud.ini, restart SONAR, open project, select new device when prompted, save project. That should do it. EDIT: OH MIDI device. You probably have to have another MIDI device installed, then select that in Preferences, and save the project, That should do it.

And FYI I was saying that years before CJ come on this forum. Joking? You're not reading the smilies very well tonight! We need more MIDI busses!!!!!!!

Sorry Brian. I have had to deal with some "other types" here lately. I should have known. Again my apologies.

John Sorry Brian. I have had to deal with some "other types" here lately. I should have known. Again my apologies. Never take this place too seriously. I mean it. For instance, the original Coffee House was filled with a group that knew much more than anybody else. Sound familiar? Have a good night! Brian

From the X1 Reference Manual: Using MIDI devices after making driver changes If you later add or remove drivers using the Drivers icon of the Windows Control Panel, SONAR reacts in the following way: • If you remove a Control Panel driver, SONAR will not use the device it belongs to the next time you run the program. Any other devices you had selected using the Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Devices command will remain selected. • If you add a driver through the Control Panel, SONAR does not automatically use it. You must use the Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Devices command to enable the new driver in SONAR’s list. Note: After you add or remove a driver with the Drivers icon in the Windows Control Panel, you must restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Do you not just get a reassign device dialogue that comes up? That's what happens here and once re-assigned it never asks again. If you've removed the device completely and don't have anything to reassign it with just remove outport port references to the missing device and that should stop it.
