We've got many users FR'ing the ability to relocate program data. The good news is that Rapture program data goes in any song you create, so basically the program data is only required for new songs. As long as you are backing up your songs, you're backing up all programs used at the same time.

RE: Relocate rapture programs/samples/etc (aiken)

Thanks, René. But it's ugly.

First, I created a junction point from c:\documents and settings\all users\cakewalk\rapture to i:\svn\music\data\rapture. That gets me the proper list of patches, but loading any of them fails ("error uncompressing..."). Process monitor showed that Rapture was trying to load the elements for the patch from c:\programdata\cakewalk\rapture..., so I created another junction point from c:\programdata\cakewalk\rapture over to i:\svn\music\data\rapture.

Ugly, and it would be really nice if Rapture would just listen to the Contents Folder reg key, but for me at least it just wasn't. Rapture 1.1, XP32.
RE: Relocate rapture programs/samples/etc (aiken)

My Vista64 installation just never worked right. Audio glitches, VST problems, just one thing after another. It got to the point where I dreaded starting up the DAW because I knew I'd be fighting with technical difficulties rather than writing.

I've dug into my new XP32 problem a bit more (it seems I'm just cursed regardless of OS). Using sysinternals process monitor, it's clear that Rapture is reading the "Contents Folder" key and doesn't care about whether there's a slash after it or not. It goes on to load stuff from the proper contents folder for LFO Waveforms, resources, and so on. So clearly that's working.

But it always goes back to c:\documents and settings\...\Rapture for programs.lst. Even if I delete that file and have Rapture recreate it, it scans the programs in c:\... instead of i:\...

Interestingly, once I load a program (from the wrong place), Rapture uses the Multisamples from the right place. But the program list and program storage just seems stuck on c: regardless of what I do in the registry.

For what it's worth, Rapture also tries to load the keys "Use Single Folder" and "Multisample Folder" when it's starting up. No idea what they do. I tried setting "Use Single Folder" to 0x1 and also my proper program storage dir with no effect.

-b

RE: Relocate rapture programs/samples/etc (techead)

I just looked at the Contents Folder registry value on my Rapture installation and noticed that it doesn't have the trailing slash. Perhaps it is the opposite of what I wrote previously. A Dimension readme file or installation notes file somewhere on my system is where I got the original information about a trailing slash...but I don't find any documentation that came with Rapture and which discusses the registry key and whether or not it needs a trailing slash. My Rapture installation is stock 32-bit Windows XP and it does not have the trailing slash.

RE: Relocate rapture programs/samples/etc (Nick P)

I wish someone would codify and release in a document the procedure for relocating all content for Cakewalk synths - DimPro, Rapture, and Z3TA+ at a minimum, if a user either switches from XP to Vista, or back from Vista to XP, or simply adds a hard drive and wants to move things around. I've got everything working on XP32, except I can't get Rapture to use my version controlled copy of its data.

I've set "HKLM/Software/Cakewalk Music Software/Rapture/Contents Folder" to i:\svn\music\data\Rapture. But Rapture insists on looking in c:\documents and settings\all users\Application Data\Cakewalk\Rapture. I even tried removing that dir and replacing it with a junction point over to the proper dir, but that causes rapture to fail to load any program ("Error uncompressing program file").

For kicks, I tried creating a "HKCU/Software/Cakewalk Music Software/Rapture/Contents Folder" key, but that doesn't help either.

This worked on Vista (well, I had to symlink the folder, but at least that worked). Anyone have this working on XP?

Thanks
-b
