Layla 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro Athlon 64 (ScottS)

Cecelius,

Sorry to hear it didn't get resolved, more than a little mysterious. It sure sounds like a software/driver communication issue.

Per my first post in this thread I have this mobo and Layla working. In fact, I spent the last couple weekends recording through every input on the Layla going out digitally to my Lynx card via ADAT, 12 hour days without one glitch. No comfort for your situation, I know. However, I did notice in your other thread about the Delta 1010 that you are using SATA drives and a pci modem and those are two signifcant differences between our systems. Have you tried taking those two variables out of the equation?

Also I have seen some funky behavior with the Nvidia IDE driver which replaces the normal windows hard drive controller, not sure if this affects SATA drives but it might be worth checking on this driver. I removed it from my system and just use the generic windows drivers with no issues. Just a thought.

Scott

RE: HELP!! I have been happy owners of both, gina 24 great, resold and got Layla 24 and have the PCI card for notebook use, great too. I heard that Gigabyte motherboards are not good to use with Layla and I have opted for anything but in three upgrades have not had a problem. I'm sorry I have not followed the whole thread but concerning your question Does anyone know what echoaudio is selling the universal PCI card for? I think it's just for MAC and 64 AMD.
My prayers are for you hope it all works out fine, keep it posted!
Tim in Taiwan

RE: HELP!! This has been four or more weeks of pure frustration!

I got the new PCI care from ECHOAUDIO, put it in expecting the best. BUT it will not work with my GA-K8nPro MoBo. I have tried every PCI slot. The card is recognized in the system info and has its own IRQ (no sharing), but the Echo Console will not load. I get a Hardware error = DSP will not load.

The same Layla24 and the same PCI card work well in my Windows ME machine (different mother board) so I know it is not a hardware problem, but something with the new Gigabyte MoBo.

I have spent too much time with this, and Echoaudio said that this new PCI card was their last option.

I will have to try the DELTA 1010 or 1010LT. Layla 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro Athlon 64 (Cecelius)

Just an update. I spoke at lenght with Echoaudio tech support last Friday as to why my Layla24 will install on my older computer but not on my new GA-K8nPro Athlon 64. Everything was working but no colsole, no sound. After trying everything, the tech guy just happend to ask me to check the number of slots on the Layla24 PCI card itself. We found out that my Layla24 PCI card is one of the earlier ones--I bought my layal24 used. Apparently Echoaudio came out with a new PCI card for PCs, not the Universal PCI card, just an updated PCI card for PCs. I have ordered it from them to see if that is the problem. The theory is that the new Layla24 PCI card will be more compatible with modern machines than the earlier PCI cards. Yes, it will cost me (of course) to purchase it, but if it works, then the problem of having a Layla24 sitting in the studion but not working will be solved. Keep your fingers crossed. I will keep you all posted. Hopefully this will be the "fix".

Cecelius

RE: HELP!! <span class="high">Layla</span> 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro <span class="high">Athlon (Featherlight)

Yeah,

Did that. Even tried running Dr Watson before hand and then starting the driver but Windosw still shuts down ( completely locks out everything ) before any log or dump can be written. Kind of a catch 22 of sorts. This BSOD is completely reproducable in every PCI slot and IRQ combination with all non essential background services disabled. So I took a picture of the screen and e-mailed to him....we'll see what happens. They have always been really helpful in the past so I hope there is a solution in the future.

Steven

RE: HELP!! <span class="high">Layla</span> 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro <span class="high">Athlon</span> 64 (Cecelius)

Featherlight:
Yes. I agree with your frustration. I too did the research on this site for weeks to see which boards and SATA drives and sound cards people were using. I had previously had trouble with VIA chipsets so I went with the NVIDA 3 chipset on the Gigabyte board.

One ray of hope is that the Layla PCI card is acknowledged on my system info page. And I spoke with Echoaudio and they intiially think it is a driver problem. They said that they just now are beginning to test A64 systems--they have ordered several MBs for their tech people to work with. Given that A64 systems are more and more coming into use and are so great in other areas, Echoaudio will certainly or at least hopefully make a fix for it.

You should give Echoaudio tech support people a call and let them know the problem. If enough consumers of their products complain, they will "have to" create a driver fix.

I commeserate with you, and wait for a solution. My worse case scenario is that I will have to sell the Layla24 go to a Delta 1010, but what if it also has quirks with the Gigabyte or A64 MB's. Layla24 is such a quality product I hate to sell it until i know it wont work on my system.

Cecelius

RE: HELP!! <span class="high">Layla</span> 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro <span class="high">Athlon</span> 64 (Featherlight)

This is interesting Cecelious,

My Layla 24 wont even install on my Abit Kv8-maxx-3 board in ANY slot with no other boards period. Then I found an obscure FAQ on the Echo web site that said Gigabyte, Asus boards 'might work' and that ABIT and MSI boards probably WONT work with the Layla. Although, no where on their regular site does this information appear or in ANY of the links from their website. Layla 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro Athlon 64 (Cecelius)

FYI. Here is the report from the System Info on the GA-K8nPRo Athlon64 set up:
HI: On Friday I spoke with Phil in tech support. He is going to call me on Monday after checking with the other technician.
I double checked my system. The Layla24 PCI is acknowledged in the System Info and is on its own IRQ (18) as Layal24 (WDM). I have also tried it on every PCI slot, with no other PCI slots filled. It is always acknowledged on the system, but never is able to load the Console. Phil said that he thought this was a driver problem and not a hardware problem. I have installed the card and Layla24 rack unit on an AMD XP1800 with a K&5SA Pro board and it works fine—no problems with the hardware.

But on my brand new system for digital audio, (ATHLON64 3200+ on a Gigabyte GA-K8NPRO Mother Board) it does not load the Console.

For your convenience, here is the report from the System Info on this ATHLON64 GA-K8NPRO board. I have diaabled the LAN, the Firewire, the Serial and Parallel ports. There are no conflicts listed, and the LAYLA24 PCI card is recognized but the Console will not load –I get a Hardware Error message saying “DSP will not load” or something like that. Layla 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro Athlon 64 (Cecelius)

Thanks. Yep. I tried all of the five PCI slots. Just put it in the #1 slot closest to the AGP video card. No other PCI slots used. And i disabled all non essential devices in BIOS like the Firewire, Serial prots, Parellel ports, lan, gigalan --all diabled. Plently of IRQ's left open. Layla24 is recognized in system info IRQ's and running on its own IRQ (18)--with no conflicts.

I did notice that when I "force IRQ's) using the PCI slot/IRQ settings in the Bios, that these forced dsettings are not applied to the Layla card. That is, when I force it to IRQ 10, it still loads into IRQ 18. I have just gone back and set it to AUTO so that it at least is setting the Layla to where the BIOS wants it to go, and it is ending up on IRQ 18 with no other devices on that IRQ

But, while the computer lists the WDM Layla24 Driver (with 8 analog outputs) in the Sound Driver devices, it still does not work on this computer in any form or fashion.

Nevertheless. Thanks for all well intentioned attempts from this forum. Sooner or later it will get working. I will keep trying, and hopefully ECHOAUDIO tech people will come up with a solution. They are a solid company and have a great product. Layla 24 wont install with GA-K8n Pro Athlon 64 (Cecelius)

I think I found the problem. The PCI card on the Gigabyte GA-k8npro MB is a PCI 2.3. I believe that this card slot requires a 3.3 volt as opposed to the PCI 2.1 slots which worked at 5v. This is why there were problems with some late model Macs (G5s?)and why Echoaudio introduced the Universal PCI card to work on either system.

Does anyone know what echoaudio is selling the universal PCI card for? Sorry if this is off topic, but i just bought this Layla 24 on EBAY to work on my brand new system for exclusive use on SONAR3PE program, and now I may have to buy a new PCI card.

One ray of hope. Echoaudio initially said today that they are beginning to test Layla on new 64bit systems and said that they thought that they could make a driver adjustment, but the expert on this will not be in until Monday.
