Yes, SHS6 is an exceptionally strong product and I LOVE it. For your info, when I bought it I was a COMPLETE greenhorn at DAWs, MIDI, etc. and had a steep hill to climb. But I was at it from day one and am at it now. I still have a lot to learn about SHS6 XL. I thought that CAKEWALK will continue with the product in the vane it promised to, work out the problems in the 64 bit version and make SHS an even stronger product. This is all I meant to say. Watering it down leaves a bad taste. As a product, SHS became a stub with verstion 7. People cannot expect me to buy a completely new product every year (because this is what it would now take to get another 64 bit version that does not have the problems of SHS6). Sorry, but you need to see my side too.

Sylva.

RE: SONAR Home Studio 7 Feature List (RobertB)

I see what you are saying, Alex. SHS6 (and 4 for that matter) were very strong products, but the learning curve was undeniably brutal. I personally love what SHS6 brought to the table, but we dealt with many who were just overwhelmed by what it could do. I suppose it may have been a bit advanced for an "entry level" product, but it was pretty darn good.
SHS7 wasn't for me, but I hope it brings the success you want from it.

RE: SONAR Home Studio 7 Feature List (sylva)

Well, they have 64 bits in XL6 and promised to fix the problems regarding WinXP64 which they do mention in the Readme.txt. I took their word straight, but they bent it. To me it means they don't care about their customers as they did before, settling for the "good enough." Maybe it's the winds of new corporate culture from Roland? I don't know, but will start looking for something else. I bought XL6 for $129. Why should I switch to full 8 for a mere $271 (which is a fortune for me) more when XL6 has most what a good DAW is supposed to have? True, I am not a beginner anymore but XL6 is not for beginners. It's a very complex and fairly complete package which took some time to master, more over, I don't think I mastered it yet. When a manufacturer brags about the "new interface" of its product, flags go up in my mind becuase I have manufacturing experience. Most of the time it's nothing but gimmick. And gimmick it is, because apparently, under the shiny veneer, wood of much lesser quality was used. This is why I didn't hurry to buy the upgrade offered in tandem with the XL7's issue to market. I wanted to see what it was about. And what it is about is not to my liking. The computer world is clearly shifting to 64 bits. The pace is picking up and, though the change over is hardware driven, software is catching up. You now buy XL7 and 4-6 months down the road XL8 will be looming with grand opening: "Sonar Home Studio 8, now fully 64 bit!! Take advantage of our inexpensive upgrade for only $69." Ahhha, you just upgraded to 7 six months back for $59, and now 64 bit is back at only $69. The two upgrades sound pretty much like what I paid for XL6 to begin with. Maybe even Session Drummer will be back, of course, "new and improved." It's the old Microsoft thing. Windows 95, the new 32 bit operating system. No more DOS, new carefree memory management. Oh, yeah.

RE: SONAR Home Studio 7 Feature List (RobertB)

Yeah, we were all a bit surprised by the SHS7 release back in August, but the dust has settled. SHS7 is what it is. Hopefully it's a good call, and will do what Cakewalk wants it to do. It is clearly aimed more at new users than previous versions, and to that end, it appears to be reaching its target audience. They have suggested that more advanced users move up to Sonar 8 (which unlike Pro Tools, does have Vista 64 bit support). To the best of my knowledge, XP64 has never been supported, and never will be. I'm not trying to bust your chops, but if you really want to stick with 64 bit, it seems you have limited options at this point in time.

RE: SONAR Home Studio 7 Feature List (sylva)

New look? That's fantastic. Wasn't XL 6's look good enough? I didn't feel I was missing something. In stead, you took out 64 bit. I completely upgraded my computers to 64 bits a year go. I am using XL 6/WinXP64. Great, here's XL 7 without 64 bits. Now, That's real progress Ms. Krugman, real progress. In the Readme of XL6 it was stated that the 64 bit problems will be addressed in a future edition. Nice change since. Sorry, no go to 7.
