So I just right click and select envelopes - create track envelopes - volume? I tired that but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong?

The most likely scenario is that your synth doesn't respond to MIDI volume (CC7). You can try with CC11 (expression, like Susan said): right click the volume envelope > assign envelope > MIDI... choose (or type) 11 in the value field. Again, it's not sure that your synth responds to that - the method Oaf_Topik described works always.

werner

RE: fading in/out midi tracks (Oaf_Topik)

If you're using a soft synth to drive the midi, then you can use the Audio track to fade in and out. You can use an envelope or Automation.

RE: fading in/out midi tracks (dexterflex)

thanks for the info.
