I tried this last night and sure enough, choose the select tool, select the notes, hold down CTRL and drag the first note worked just fine.

I swear I've seen this not work sometime though. I have no idea why and I have to say I don't understand NYSR's comment about duplicate notes. Sonar's had no problem with tons of duplicates for me in the past (not a good scenario!). Is there some option that would prevent this perhaps?

First off: proper netiquette. Your post is not urgent. Some people's are. Please don't cry wolf, it's not polite.

Secondly: there are about ten ways accomplish what you're wanting to do and they're all valid. Furthermore they're all quite easy, and many of them have been explained in detail here in this thread. When someone gives you advice to solve your problem, you're gonna have to try and follow it to succeed. We can not come over to your house and do a simple copy/paste for you (nor could you afford it, to be honest).

What you're doing is dirt-simple data manipulation that is similar to the kind found in any Windows program. Here's the options as I see them:

duplicate the clip onto another track. Select the clip, use the Transpose command to move your notes to a lower octave
drag|copy the notes to another octave in the PRV, use the SHIFT key to hold at current time. But this one was explained to you in pornographic detail and you still didn't seem to get it.

There are others but these are by far the easiest. To be honest, you need to go through the tutorials that came with your $500 sequencer and learn the basics. There's no substitute for experience and the rudimentary skills of dragging, copying, holding down a modifier key like CTRL and knowing how to transpose MIDI notes is something that you should spend some time getting under your belt. Otherwise trying to help you with other things like AudioSnap (as per your other "urgent" thread) will be nigh-impossible. This forum works best when it helps those who help themselves, so I encourage you to roll up your sleeves and get dirty.

Montezuma cheers...I had to paste it FAR AWAY from the original, many bars along, then it pasted it on the same horizontal but it wasnt all mixed up with the original, then I dragged it to the next octave.

You will not be able to past it to any octave except the one it was copied from. If you paste it at the same now marker you now have duplicate notes. The original and the pasted duplicate. The duplicates should still be selected if you have not clicked the mouse. Now go to the process menu and transpose the selected notes down an octave.

actually I gave him 2 solutions, the first being ctrl drag.
If it hadn't been urgent, I might have made it more clear that I was presenting 2 solutions. But as he was stalled with a semi about to run him over, I hurried the post.

I didn't bother with duplicate the track and drag them down.
Nor did I introduce the convoluted world of FX like transpose

You don't even have to do any of that transpose stuff. You just copy, paste, click, hold, drag, let go. How hard can it be.

If I select all the notes and then drag them down, they are indeed all linked together, but it just moves the original to the new place. I have been trying for over an hour and Im well pissed off now, coz I need to finish this work for a job as a midi designer.....yeh I know, funny, a midi designer who cant copy and paste, but then that's not MIDI design really. anyway, I still havent donw it

Well when it pastes it down it should be all linked together...that's when you click on it, hold the left mouse click and drag the whole pasted thing to where you want it.

coz it pastes it at the top each time. Even if i click lower down on the page, it still pastes it at the top keyboard.

Why don't you just select all of what you want to shift down and copy and paste then drag it all to where you want it? It's a simple MS Word exercise.

Hi,

Generally in SONAR, if you hold the CTRL key down when you drag something, it takes a copy of it instad of moving it.

So, in the piano roll, enable the "select" pointer, draw a box around all of your notes, then CTRL click and drag the first note. You should be able to move it down. I think the SHIFT key will cause it to stay aligned vertically too... try holding that down mid-drag and see.

I have just finished plotting a song in piano roll and have tried pasting it further down (from C8 to C7 octave) while keeping the original on C8. But each time I tried it (two times :)) it pastes it into the C8 octave. Can someone tell me the steps (it's very late here and I am knackered so please be simple lol) so that it pastes in C7
