Jeff you can get ones I've made.. mike mccue hosts them at his site.. they are for DP .. and a few more for battery, Altimaboy did a fair few also.

not sure about where the "normal" sit.. when you try to do an install from the disk can you select only the drum maps? just an idea.

I might be doing a small something else , before Christmas but maybe it won't be finished what with PC's giving me headaches.

as for the default ones, if you upgraded from 7.. well they should still be in the drum map folder for that (well a fair few).. errm if you look in global options / folders you'll find em.

I'm not sure what you mean so

To define instrument definitions on the menus go Options/Instruments/Define
To define Drum Maps on the menus go Options/Drum Map Manager - or select Drum Map manager from the Output paramter for the midi track.

To select defined note names right click on the keyboard part of the piano roll & select from the pulldown.

Right - but on my Laptop with Vista, I cannot seem to get to where you can edit these names.

It will also let you select any note names defined in instrument definition files (INS) from the keyboard in PRV.

I could have sworn that there was some way to get custom note names in the piano roll without a Drum Map. On my computer that has Windows XP, I can do this. But my new laptop with Vista does not.

Any ideas??

Stoopid Hidden Folders!

The other way around this is to type out the "tree" in the "address bar". This did work. I guess my next similar question would be how to get the note names list to display the EZ Drummer note names without the actual drum maps.

Ya know, when you right click on the "Piano Keys" and choose which note names you want to diplay?

AppData is a hidden folder, so that probably means you need to open an instance of Windows Exploer and go to Tools/Folder Options, select the View tab, and under Hidden Files and Folders select the show hidden files and folders option. " />

so just search your hard drive using windows search for *.map

then when you find it, go to your OPTIONS>GLOBAL>FOLDERS and change the location of the drum maps to whereever your drum maps are stored that you found using search.

Drum maps are located here by default have you checked?

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 8 Producer Edition\Drum Maps

If not there check under "all users" or "administrator" or "Default User" etc

also you should check under options |global on the folders tab to see where sonar expects to fnd them and look there.

If not you will probably need to re-install and just select the necessary components at the appropriate screen.

LOL! Just having some fun with ya... seriously, most drum sample solutions automatically display their hits in your Piano Roll View so drum maps aren't really necessary nowadays if you use BFD, Superior 2, Addictive, EZD or whatever. So it's kind of a throwback to when drum sample sets were pretty minimally packaged and more user intensive.

ok Jeff,have you tried installing the sonar disk again, BUT you'll have a custom option also? and see if you can use that. you might be able to just specify them. I've not got my disks to hand , their down stairs and the machines off for the night.

ok.. the thing with drum maps.. well if your using say the step sequencer and NOT every key is mapped, it's handy to just display the ones that are.. also the fact you get the names instead of c-1 , d-1 etc etc. so it's only showing notes that are used.

Jeff you can get ones I've made.. mike mccue hosts them at his site.. they are for DP .. and a few more for battery, Altimaboy did a fair few also.

not sure about where the "normal" sit.. when you try to do an install from the disk can you select only the drum maps? just an idea.

I might be doing a small something else , before Christmas but maybe it won't be finished what with PC's giving me headaches.

as for the default ones, if you upgraded from 7.. well they should still be in the drum map folder for that (well a fair few).. errm if you look in global options / folders you'll find em.

Do you have an older version of Sonar on your computer? Sometimes Sonar will use the older Drum Map Folder. It happened to me. If not, I believe you can install just the drum maps from the Sonar DVD.

I have version 8.02! I've reinstalled Sonar & tried to start it while holding the "shift" key (this was an answer I saw with a Google search)! I simply have no preset drum maps no matter what I've tried. I searched my hard drives and found an empty "drum maps" folder.

I tried calling support...got a message saying they were too busy to answer. I e-mailed...but have yet to get an answer.

Anybody know how I can access the drum maps?
