All in all did not have an issue installing except I have a specific folder for everything VST and the MC program appears to not like it. And one other location that was specifying address it was not showing the VST folder specified, so I will probably reinstall it tonite with its own ... usually Ion't care for this process as it makes it very difficult to find/locate everything and make a clear/concise backup strategy.

About the only hangup, so far was the list on the bottom end that shows the samples and clips not allowing me to sample them and I could not figure out why. I printed out the manual and am reading up on it at this time. And Windows didn't like it and gave me a nasty error and twice I had to cut out with the 3 finger salute.

The instrumens addon is nice and I have already been having fun with it on the keyboard and then some! The specs for SHS7 & MC5 are listed. They're just not side by side. Perhaps a dedicated chart makes it easier to compare- but- it's definitely not something that's needed? I think the relevance of the SHS7 & sonar comparison was to see how the engines differed with the new SHS7 format. MC5 is the SHS7 engine so it seems a bit pointless?

At the rate CW/ Roland is going... They will soon be releasing Kinetic [3] and Project [5] ver. 3-- with the same SHS7 GUI!!! The reality is-- they will simply slap these names on what is SHS7 and simply declare them as a new product.

The sad thing is... you'll have some individuals that will fall for it, like they have GTP4!

RE: MC4 vs MC5 Comparison (Beagle)

I've gotta believe there's one around, but I haven't been able to find it.

not sure why, but there's not a comparison chart for MC vs SHS. the only comparison chart is SHS vs Sonar:
http://www.cakewalk.com/products/homestudio/english/comparison.asp

RE: MC4 vs MC5 Comparison (CloudsOfSound)

Comparisons, comparisons... MC5 is practically free, compared to other music creating software. Simple? Yes, but in a doable way.
It is possible to learn the interface that is indistinguishable from its bigger brother (SH), still it is possible to use advanced plugins and expand with other compatible packages.

I think it's a great product. Compare it to Steinberg Sequel 2, that targets the same audience, and after trying out both, I must say that Cakewalk has a major lead.
It is targeted at small productions, even one-man-bands, and for that purpose it serves just great.

Well, give me a work in sales, but thats MHO.

RE: MC4 vs MC5 Comparison (deraudrl)

In my opinion, going from any SONAR program to any Music Creator program is not an upgrade. It wasn't that hard to get up and running. What took time was learning the techniques of recording. And I still have a lot to learn.
Music Creator has always been the most basic sequencing program from Cakewalk since it first came out. It allows for fewer audio and MIDI tracks, only 2 simultaneous inputs, fewer effects and processes and fewer plug-ins. The further up the upgrade path you go, there are more soft synths, more effects and processes, the ability to record multiple simultaneous inputs, and the audio engine seems to be improved with each new version.
I can't detail every difference between each version because I don't know them all, and it would be up to the user to decide if the extra $100 or $400 is worth it. It was worth it for me to go to SONAR 6.
If you have specific questions about MC, Pedro, you can always ask in the MC forum and we'll try to help.

RE: MC4 vs MC5 Comparison (Moshkiae)

Hi,

I'm so confused with all this information I think I'm gonna give up on this digital ... corsage!

I wish there was a chart that showed also some basics ... as to why one program is 50 bux and the other 500 bux ... Of course, the preferred path of DAW program purchases, at least in Cakewalk's corporate mind (I'm assuming) is not for a MC user to buy another MC, but to buy SONAR Home Studio then the full-blown SONAR. Just as General Motors wants you to upgrade from a Chevy to a Buick to a Cadillac. Or at least from a Chevy Cobalt to a Malibu.
I've noticed at the grocery store that what was once a 4-ounce bag of potato chips for $2.29 is now a 3.5-ounce bag for $2.29.
