(Andrew G)

Just a quick update. Went back to the music shop the other day and had a good long chat to the tech guy there. I've bought a lot of stuff from him in the past and he has always been extremely helpful and honest, to the point of losing a sale as a result of his advice. Anyhow, the following info was aquired:-

The Kool Sound Pearls are made from the same parts as the G1 and G2 KRK Rokits. Speakers themselves from the G2, surround and casing from the G1's.

I had another listen, comparing the Pearl 6's to the KRK 6's, and couldn't hear any noticable difference, so I bought the Pearl 6's. When I got them home, I noticed the shop label read 'PEARL6 STUDIO MONITOR PAIR KRK' ... :P

There was a slight hum from the tweeter, which I have since fixed with a better shielded power strip, but otherwise they have exceeded my expectations massively. They are certainly a huge step up from my MA-15D's, and for what I paid (£225 for the pair) they are a bargain IMO.

Disclaimer:- I am NOT a pro-musician/ engineer. I produce music at home as a hobby, and therefore do not have the 'golden ears' that many on this forum could profess to have. :) But compared to other speakers I have tested, these seem perfect FOR ME..

RE: Are these the same as KRK Rokits? I mean yep I use other monitors.. but I'd prefer to use something smaller for nearfields.

RE: Are these the same as KRK Rokits? (Andrew G)

Thanks for the reply!

I think they are modelled on the 1st Generation of the KRK Rokits. I've done some more digging and it seems that indeed the specs are extremely closely matched. All I need to find is the response curves for the KRK range to compare with. I'm heading to the store today to give them another look and will keep you posted...

Andrew

RE: Are these the same as KRK Rokits? (Fog)

they look like KRK's a BIT..

"claimed" is one thing..

KRK might be miffed. he's probably on more commission on them speakers.. ask to see the frequency response / gain charts for both.. or see if you can find em online.. I'm guessing they might differ

I did a quick look around on youtube.. but for how true that is, well I dunno

"The Kool sound pearls are not a rip off of the KRK, they came out of the same factory as the KRK monitors, KRK aint happy about it, but they cant do anything about it really...."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Iq9V2urkg

and maybe their site has more info.
http://www.koolsound.com/index_uk.html

have a look at the pdf on the site, BUT the pdf there isn't so clear to show the levels chart <img src="http://forum.cakewalk.com/upfiles/smiley/s13.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />

they are based in europe , well with a +33 code.. not sure what country.. and KRK are US based? so thats part of why they'd be cheaper.. less import tax for a start

after comparing them spec wise, for the 5's

page 65 of the pdf from kool, both are very close.

KRK
Freq Response: 53Hz - 20kHz (+/- 1.5 db)

kool
Freq Response: 53Hz - 20kHz (+/- 2 db)

interesting, but well the price thing.. being EU based does have an impact.

Are these the same as KRK Rokits? (Andrew G)

Hi all,

I am in the process of upgrading my Edirol MA-15D monitors, and am interested in the KRK Rokit 6's. I had a look in my local music store today and they had a range of speakers called 'Kool Sound Pearl', which had 5, 6, and 8'' versions. The syling is very similar to that of the KRK's, and from what I could tell they sounded pretty much identical to the Rokit 6's I had demoed. The guy in the shop claimed that the speakers are identical to the KRK's, but rebadged and sold MUCH cheaper, the Pearl 6 is £225 a pair compared to £360 for the Rokit 6's.

I've had a good look online and cannot find much info about these speakers, but if they really are the same as the KRK's I may take the plunge...

Here's a link to the Pearl 5 version to give you an idea... http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/prodpage.asp?prodid=2830

Does anyone here know much about these speakers? Any help would be extremely welcome!

Many thanks in advance,

Andrew
